There are strong rumors FJ Cruiser will be making a come back in the coming years,

But this is the normal 4Runner we all expect from Toyota. Nothing too fancy. Nothing groundbreaking. Same engine and interior as the Tacoma. Even the back end doesn't look that different from the current one.

They simply folded the seats down to show a better view of the dash.

There is no way they'll do a FJ... they got rid of it to stop the cannibalism between the 4R and FJ.

The multi-ton Cybertruck is controlled the same way.

No likely to see any 2-door SUV from Toyota in North America. Combination of liability (easy to spin out), CAFE footprint formulas, and low customer demand.

unless they do something drastically different, I am calling this tesla's top. They have nothing in the pipeline and competition is getting better.

I think that's the LC250; you can see LandCruiser on the left side of the lift gate.

Not the same back window as the 4R image / window video.

I can't believe I am saying this but I like 550 exterior better than LC 250.

Ironically, I was just thinking the LC is growing on me. I think the front end is still pretty goofy looking, neither headlight option is doing it for me.

The front end! I find both round headlights and other headlights don't work for me either, and the grill is just...meh. Who knew removing that ugly ass hourglass grill would make such a difference with lexus, but it did!

Maybe looking at simple 4R and Taco fronts for 20 years has burned a default Toyota look into my brain.

Agreed. Not much change from the current design IMO. Which is a good thing. I really think the 5th gen design was ahead of its time and that is why it aged so well. HOWEVER, I do NOT like those Explorer-like tail lights :frustrated:. That could have been a better job.

Good looking Land Cruiser. I bet she drives smooth.

Wonder how long before someone tries to shove a IforceMax V6 into the new 4Runner.

Yeah that makes sense too. I mean, there are 2 door jeeps still and tons of FJ cruisers who have made a massive comeback, specially in Florida. But who knows, I just thought it looked way too small on the back and seats to close to rear window, and since they are going all retro now.. would be nice !

Tesla has made more improvements to the Model 3 in 8 years than Toyota did with the 4Runner in 15 years ;)

Keep in mind the FJ has been dead in North America for a decade now, joining the two-door Tahoe, Isuzu Amigo, two-door Sidekick, two-door Cherokee, Honda Element...

The new compact Land Cruiser FJ (or whatever it'll be called) is expected to be 4-door only.

I'd expect the 2-door Wrangler to go away soon. It's already not stocked in Jeep dealers in 14 states due to CAFE pressure (2-door lacks 4xe option).

I've seen these rumors... but let's be honest... they're NOT gonna put it in the same category as the 4R. No way in hell.

If anything they'll make it into a Bronco Sport rival.

EDIT: yup that link confirms what I said.

I own both, guess which one gives off “well built” vibes and which one feels like the doors will fall off when I close them?;)

What's going on with the mudflaps?

Looks like some weights on the bottom and a random bar across the middle or I am not seeing this right?

^Those are "First Edition" rally-style mudflaps. The strap prevents the flap from being sucked into the tire when reversing. Rally cars often have a steel cable holding the flaps up:

The 4Runner doors feel tinny AF, especially when you close them with the window slightly open. But with the Model 3 you're lucky to get matching interior door panels.

I sure hope they not true! Or, I hope they at least make it worthy of being called an "FJ" this time around.

That looks more like a competitor for the Jeep Renegade than anything that deserves to be called an FJ.

They're not, though. I've slammed the fuck out of mine numerous times and never even ended up with a rattle.

Being heavy isn't a sign of quality.

I'm curious how much difference the air dam actually makes. I could live with one if it's functional, and removable.

^The Tacoma's airdam is for corporate average fuel economy. The lesser trims get a massive airdam to compensate for the Pro and Trailhunter being wider, taller, with bigger tires, etc. The airdam takes 5 minutes or so to remove with power tools.

^Corporate average fuel economy is quite the boondoggle. If a piece of equipment increased 0.2 mpg, automakers will add it.

Conversely, if a piece of equipment decreases mpg by .2gal on one vehicle, they’ll add an almost useless air dam to 240,000 other vehicles. That amount of plastic might even negate the environmental impact of what they’re attempting to accomplish in the first place? And everyone will remove the air dam anyway lol.

That's the funny part about all of this to me. With so much of this stuff, I’m not convinced there’s a logical conclusion.

(…thinking about where I’m gonna put that air dam when I take it off my 2026)
