A local industry person recently heard about Morgan’s March 12th story… yesterday they brought here a special bottle to crack open next year on March 12th.

I've never had an old fashioned with simple syrup. How was it?

I do use simple syrup for Mojitos and daiquiris.

Yes, I thought sugar was standard for an old fashioned. Traditional would be booze, sugar, bitters and water. But you could certainly substitute simple syrup for sugar and water.

Your drink looked damn tasty!

Being in Wisconsin, we do old fashioneds prohibition style, with muddled fruit and soda. Some people don't like it, but it's my favorite cocktail.

We had a good selection tonight! I made old fashioneds, and had some Mezcal.

 

Is that right eh, now that sounds damn tasty as well.
Well, I mean my simple syrup is literally 1 part sugar two parts water lol
It is standard to add sugar and you can taste granules? I boil the sugar so it's dissolved for the drink essentially

They're quite tasty! Here's me in the process of stirring up 9 of them last night after a trail run.



With the old fashioneds, you muddle the sugar with the fruit and bitters, so it gets mixed in to an extent. Then, you get a little extra in the last few sips which makes you want another one instantly.

I do sugar and water 1:1 for simple syrup. I'm not sure what the standard is, though. I started making it when I learned how to make Mojitos.

For simple syrup yes 1:1 is standard, but last time my wife did it it seemed too thick in the fridge next day so I went less sweet this last time.

 

I haven't tried muddled sugar in my old fashioned, but I will. Sounds interesting. I use agave syrup.

2 shots bourbon
1 1/2 shots lemon juice
1/2 shot agave syrup
1/2 shot egg white
1 muddled Luxardo cherry with a scoop of cherry syrup in there for good measure

Dry shake for a minute to froth the egg white
Add ice and shake until nice and cold.
Pour over large ice cube and garnish with Luxardo cherry and citrus rind.

 

This sounds very interesting! I've heard of egg white in cocktails, but I've never tried it.

I'm starting to think I need to step my bartending game up. I tend to learn a new cocktail every couple of months or years, whenever I become interested in a new drink. But I'm tempted to start trying new ones more often. I already have one or two I'd like to learn. Could be a fun way to spend an occasional Friday when I don't have any plans.

 

Egg whites in cocktails are typically used for the frothy layer on top, it tends to be messy and wasteful, so often times aquafaba is used in its place.

Vago Elote Mezcal, Chihuahuan Sotol, Novo Fogo Tanager Cachaca, Pineapple, Honey



It’s the best Sotol drink I’ve ever had by far and quite possibly the best mezcal cocktail as well. Mind blowing good, but at $22 for one, it better be!

As @Agent_Outside said, the egg white adds a little frothy layer on the top of the drink but you have to shake it up pretty good for a solid 30 seconds with all the ingredients and no ice to get the froth.

I use those small cartons of egg whites from the store to make it a lot easier and quicker.

It’s a really nice touch to a few cocktails. After trying it, you might find you miss it if it’s not there.

 

You must give your body what your body needs. This is what my friend said every time he opened a new bottle of scotch. Basically every other day.
I believe in moderation. Dry whatever month is just dumb. What if I have a social event? I can’t stand those people. lol I need my drink. Not that I’m antisocial, I’m just not social.

 

Well since it is still daylight i have just dipped in to this.
