    Hi, 1999 2 WD LTD. The transmission dipstick has a range for hot and one for cold. If the level is measured when standing and ambient and the level is within the cold allowable range why is there a need to take a hot reading, and if say a hot reading is taken when the engine is hot and is on what is the need for a cold reading?

    I think you've sort of answered your own question but transmission fluid expands with heat.
