Ok. Folks. Sorry to swamp the discussion with a rando question but this vehicle has come up for sale. Yes. Can you tell? We are on the hunt, for a Toyota SUV.

It’s not exactly a 4Runner, but a Land Cruiser/Prado imported from Senegal to Canada’s national region (diplomatic plates), 2007 diesel with 154,000 kms on the clock; no rust , undercoated treatment. Turbo 4 cylinder diesel, manual transmission.
Super hot! But we need a daily vehicle AND a weekender travelling on logging roads to get family with 2teens and 2 dogs and gear to the camp.

Really. We are looking at 4Runners. But this one, ooo. Looking good; bad-ass, like an over sized Rav. Might be a real pain to get parts though. Better as a leisure vehicle and not a full timer.

How easy is it going to be to repair that engine if needed? Are parts easily available or do you have to import everything?

I would rethink about righthand driving daily in the US region. Left hand driving itself is challenging nowadays.

I would also think rethink about acceleration with old 4cly diesel turbo on ramps to highways.

Then I would think about not having genuine Toyota diesel parts. I know in Texas there is a Toyota diesel conversion shop who might have genuine Toyota diesel parts but not sure other places how to get parts.

I also wonder what challenges one would face with emissions. I don't know if 2007s have things like DPF but unlike 90s vehicles 2007 ones might be entitled to emission standards. I have no f'n clue about these and just thinking out loud for you to find out beforehand.

Skip it and look for a used 4runner.

Ok. So ya. Took it for a drive. It drives like a tractor; super low geared not a good fit for a daily. Repainted, inside quite destroyed. Ok. Going back to 4R hunt. Sigh.
