I can’t think of how else to describe it, given the 3-row doesn’t seem to have a “step” like the 2 row.

However, I agree with what you’re saying. I seem to recall threads where folks thought the 3-row was both flat *and* parallel to the imaginary floor plane of the vehicle, until they realized that subtle distinction made it impossible to use for sleeping (unless you parked at a significant up/down angle). I’d imagine making a platform that’s parallel to the floor-line on the 3 row is more complicated than on a two row.

3rd row/cargo area are flat. Then you get to 2nd row and there is a slight slope as the seats can't fold completely flat due to the seat bottoms.

IMG_1072.jpg IMG_1075.jpg IMG_1076.jpg IMG_1077.jpg Made this sleeping platform using materials purchased from Home Depot. Materials include: 3/4” plywood (1/2 sheet, 48”X48”), 2”X3’s”, 1”X1” wood strips for 3/4” wood shelves to slide in/out, 1 1/2” drywall screws, black indoor/outdoor carpet. Had a fella at Home Depot cut the plywood to my specs. IMG_1072.jpg

Went with something a bit beefier. Need to get some handles on the side so it's easier to move but the slide out will come in clutch for coffee under the back trunk hatch!

Looks good. I just wish you could disable all the interior lights on the interior of the 4runner as to not drain the battery with the hatch open.

I think the lights all go out after 5 or 10 minutes.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the exact time is, but I don't think there's anything that will stay on more than 20 minutes without pressing the start/accessory button again.

I know that I can sometimes get the lift-gate lights to come back on by opening a door. Even in the "on" position, they seem to go out eventually.

Yeah, anything that's controlled by a door will go on for a time when the door reopens. It will all go off if you leave the door open long enough.

I need to buy some more 3/4” plywood. I need two pieces; 17 1/2” X 33” to slide in the slots. Will drill 2” round holes (door hole saw) on the ends to stick my finger in to pull the drawers out. Don’t want to buy another half sheet of 3/4” plywood and defeat the “budget build”. Got a buddy who owns a cabinet shop, I’ll ask him for any remnants. May also router the edges.

Yeah, I expect it to come on with the door in the "door" position. But, they go out in the "on" position, too. Seems weird.

I understand the reason, I suppose. I just kinda wish it didn't do that.

It always happens when you're trying to finish something that needs light and both hands are full.
