The "TRD Off Road" comes with highway/street tires! I find that humorous. They are the same ones that came on my FJ Cruiser. Good tires, and they lasted forever, but not what I really want. The dealer wants an absurd price for 4 for "all-terrain" tires, and they get to keep the 4 brand new ones!

Anyone know which national tire dealer chains offer a trade-in credit for brand new tires? I need a chain with a store in Northeast Florida.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
I sold the Dunlop street tires that my SloRunner came with. I posted on FB Marketplace, Nextdoor, Craigslist and even on this site. But in the end, I sold them to a family friend of my next-door neighbor.

I got $600 for all four. They only had 11miles on them. No tire-chain will give you any money for them. It's a safety thing for them. They need a guarantee/warranty, and if they buy from a dude of the street, they can't get that.

I have seen a couple of posts, I forgot where, that some people got about $200 credit from the tire shop when, 1) Vehicle has only a few miles on ODO to prove that they are new, and 2) You buy four new tires and installation from that shop and let them do the swap. Not sure if this still exists.

It's a liability issue for most shops. Once a tire is mounted it is considered used. That said, I've sold 3 or 4 sets of take-offs over the years on the typical platforms. I price them at 50% of a brand new set of what they are and they are gone in a day or two. It offsets the cost of a premium set of tires a good bit. I'm not a fan of factory tires. I replace them immediately. I factor it in along with TT&L. They are the least expensive tires the manufacturer can legally get away with pushing out the door in most cases. Just my personal preference.

I checked and they are the same ones that came on my FJ Cruiser. Bridgestone Dueler H/T. I drove on them forever, and they were just fine, but they just look silly on the TRD offroad. I suppose I could put take-offs on Craigslist or something, but until they sell, I have to store the things. I'd rather just let a shop have them as "used" for whatever credit they might offer. I'll make a few phone calls to local shops I guess.

That's good to know. They have a store not too far away. I'll go see them and ask.

Your mileage may vary by regional chains, but in my area, one of the larger local shops had no issue when I swapped out the Dunlop on my 2021 SR-5.
Made the change out worth it. The Dunlops, in my opinion, are a poor tire to fit to an SR5 Premium. Will leave it at that.

I always had good luck selling 4runner stuff on FB marketplace. And one time Craigslist.

Discount tire offered me just 100bucks for Dunlop Grandtreks vs FB market place I got 500 for 5 tires. I post them when I was at the dealership and buyer came to Discount tire next day when I was swapping the tires.

The reason I said Craigslist is my Limited wheels were sold via Craigslist. So post both on FB and Craigslist. If you share with your local 4runner group the sale might be faster.

I was offered $50 per tire from America's Tire, only had 400 miles on ODO. Passed on that offer and sold them on FB marketplace for $500.
The manager actually told me he thought I could get more for them and not to trade them in.

Discount Tire said $30 each x 4 = $120 credit for the Bridgestone Dueler highway tires that come on the TRD Offroad. :( It's a vanity project, but they just look silly. They are the same ones that came on my FJ Cruiser back in 2011.

I guess I'll have to learn to live with 4 tires in the living room until I find a way to get rid of them. I wonder if they will fill the room with "new tire smell."

Good Lord, the OEM tires are $275 each at Tire Rack. They are expensive for what they are, which is a decent tire but not the best. If I can get half of that it would significantly reduce the cost of the swap.

Edit: Wait a minute ... they can't be that much. I must have the wrong version.

^The OEM tires are often a cheapened version of the tire model you find aftermarket. You should also know Toyota's selection method for picking OEM tires:
    1. Lowest bidder.
    2. Best mpgs.
    3. Enough pavement grip to pass gov't handling tests.
    4. Lowest bidder.

Note all-weather performance and off-road performance aren't considerations.

The AT tire upgrade option at the dealer (some version of Nitto Terra Grappler) is/was the most insane thing I have seen in a while because they get to keep the original 4 tires! It was either $1,000 or $1,500 I think. Now it's not even an option as far as I can see. Now you get them in a $3,599 offroad package with wheels and tires instead. Again, no. The wheels on the TRD Off Road are fine with me and I can get decent tires for $1,200 and sell the Bridgestone Dueler H/T that come on it. I'm in Florida and they are just fine for many, many people but not my vanity, LOL. Thanks for the tips folks. I'll have 4 tires sitting in the living room until they sell, but I have a feeling they will go quickly if I heavily discount them.

^That looks like a port-installed package your regional distributor SET came up with, to pad profit margins.

Yes, it is. It's all ridiculous prices for everything on the stickers. People probably just buy what's on the lot and don't shop around to see what it would cost them to have it done after purchase. The fact that they get to keep the take-off wheels and tires is the kicker. Most people are not willing to deal with selling them later I guess. People are very busy, and some people have a whole lot of money so they don't care so much. For me, I'll be happy with the black inlay TRD Off Road wheels and sell the highway tires that come on it and I'll save a lot.

Discount Tire bought 3 of my 4 old tires today when I purchased a brand new set of 265/70/17 Pathfinder All Terrains to go with my new to me TRD Pro wheels. I only buy my tires from Discount.

Discount Tire also owns Tire Rack I found out, so you can shop at Discount Tire or Discount Tire Direct or Tire Rack. All three direct you to a local Discount Tire shop to have them installed.

Discount Tire said $30 each x 4 = $120 credit for the Bridgestone Dueler highway tires that come on the TRD Offroad. :(

I found the same ones online for $606 for a set of four with tax included, so $120 is a bit too low for me. I'll see if I can sell them.

Sold them for $450 cash to a guy who lives not far from me. It only took 48 hours to find a buyer. He was happy to get them and save $160 off the four. He is putting them on a Tacoma with bald tires. Nitto Nomad Grapplers installed at 40 miles on the odometer.
