New proud owner of 2024 Underground 4Runner ORP

I am super excited to join this forum, I just bought a new 2024 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium in underground color and I couldn’t be happier.

I owned a 2020 jeep wrangler Rubicon for 2 years but I wanted to switch to a 4 Runner because of multiple reasons. Reliability one of them, I started to have weird reactions in my engine while accelerating and the dealer didn’t try to find out truly what it was. Second… I have a large family, wife, 3 kids… I always like the comfort of the 4Runner over a jeep wrangler. Specially for the use we will give to it, 90% paved road, 10% off road, I have been waiting for a long time for this moment.

I drove 200 miles to get it from a dealer who was offering decent prices… basically $4.5k below MSRP. I think it has been an amazing deal. What do you think?

I plan to add a bunch of things, mostly accessories. I love the way it handles with stock suspension and while I love the look of bigger tires I don’t want to compromise road performance. I’ve recently driven for a week a 4Runner with a 2.5’/3’ Lift kit and 285’s and I didn’t like how it handled in fast turns and hard breaking.

I hope I can learn a lot from this forum and share some experiences along the way. thanks!

the underground color is tough for taking pictures of it, truly, the photos doesn’t make justice. It’s nicer than it looks.

 

I think you scored big time with that discount! You got me beat. Like you said, the Underground color looks dramatically different depending upon what type of light it’s in. From black to dark gray to a grayish blueish purple, so cool! Welcome to the forum!

 

Welcome! I saw this color on several Toyota models at the Chicago auto show, and it's really nice. There are a LOT of grays out there, and for a darker value gray, this one has something unique with a bit of a blue cast. Congrats on a great choice. Others will have loads of suggestions on the suspension and tire questions, but for photographing this color, early or late in the day would likely bring it to life. It's the kind of color that needs the warm highlights and cool shadows you get in the magic hours. Enjoy!

I got the metallic black and I'm noticing that it doesn't look so good mudded up (my red Tacoma looked great all muddy). I'm going to be hitting the car wash regularly. How does the underground look when it is dirty?

Also, if you keep posting pictures with the stock tires, people will start giving you shit. The did to me, and I'm picking up some Toyo AT3s on Wednesday (never could resist peer pressure).

I definitely want to put some good AT tires, I’ve used KO2 and they’re great. I am just trying to find the most aggressive yet quiet tire I could possible fit, so I’m still looking.

also… I am not sure if I want stock tire size or bigger. I like a lifted 4Runner look but I hate to lose road performance. I rented this 4Runner in LA las week and a hard break would make the ABS kick in easily. In fast turn corners, it felt as if something were going to break. I don’t know if i ever could find a lift kit that feels and perform the same as stock suspension in road/ paved condition. So… I’m still doing some research.

Underground is one of those colors that looks even better in the flesh than it does in pictures. Congrats on getting a great vehicle in a great color.
