Recently bought a 2021 4Runner SR5. Love it more each day! A couple of questions: First, is there some way to search the topics so I don't risk being unnecessarily redundant? And second, having not yet accessed responses to "First", what are your recommendations for a roof rack and associated adapters?
Very glad to be here, and looking forward to your replies!

    Oooh look, another mod.....
Here is how you can search (on this site). You can also go to Google.com and type in your question there, and the thread results will most likely link you to this site or others just like it:

As for roof racks, I recommend Yakima.

Roof rack, as in a permanently mounted flat-ish surface for lashing things aka a Prinsu or Gobi or similar?

Or roof basket aka Thule, Yakima or similar; quasi-permanently or temporarily mounted on crossbars?

People often drop questions not unlike yours but don't specify intended purpose... I imagine most non-broverlanders probably want a roof basket but without further clarification you're going to get into the weeds pretty fast.

When I am looking for something I generally use the advanced search and check "thread titles only" in one or three particular forums only for the thing I seek (eg "5th gen forum"); if that doesn't pan out I usually just search the term in all threads and forums and weed out responses from there. Upper right hand corner. If you are on a phone and can't see the search bar turn the phone sideways.

I have a Sherpa - an early version of the Crestone. It's been OK. If I were shopping in today's market I'd look at the updated Prinsu rack. It addresses my concerns with the capability of the Sherpa. Sherpa probably still has the best roof seals, but the Prinsu looks stronger.

I have a Sherpa Crestone on mine and love it. Very versatile for my lifestyle and needs. I typically carry kayaks, sups, snowboards, fishing rods and random other crap on it. For my needs, I like the fact that it is flat rather than a basket-style. It is also great for the BORG runs for stuff like drywall / plywood. I had 16 sheets of 1/4" floor underlayment on it the other day and it made the job very easy.

WD with the add on floor giving me a mini basket. Style very similar to Sherpa and Prinsu. The floor is what was unique for WD. Very high build quality and support like everything I have heard about WD. I had a steel basket roof rack prior to low profile. Going low profile made a difference for me wind drag and gear hunting interstate speeds.

Yakima or other quick release basket works installing/removing when not needed. Be aware of extra height for parking garages if adding roof rack and lift.

Greenlane Off Road full length and their ladder. Built well, the mount point sealing solution is bullet (and water) proof. You can also remove the rack and leave the mount blocks in place should you desire.
    Built well, great value.

Be aware if you get the needle it has lower weight limits.

Thanks for the heads up, I just looked up the specs.

200 dynamic. 500 static. Not as much as the crestone but plenty for what I'd use it for.

I got a prinsu from a guy for $500. It definitely racks the roof. I like being able to slide 1/4" carriage bolts in to be creative with mounting

I haven't seen anyone else using the floor grates. For my use I needed them and am very happy with the fit. Being modular and use the full roof covering sunroof or leaving exposed is handy.

One improvement I noticed going low profile is sunroof noise. For me it's noticably quieter when open particularly at highway speeds. I think it has to do with rack and visor being close to roof line. WD advertises picking up 1 mpg. My truck is heavy so this is tough to measure but the gear hunting and sunroof noise definitely makes me think it's helped adding some aero dynamics reducing wind drag. Loaded up with gear is a different story.

For customer service I've yet to find a company better than Westcott! They also are all about supporting other US made companies. Even their local competition. At their events each month they promote other local vendors and the companies they support. I've had a couple convos with Jeff and he is a standup man. I'll post a story later today that I never got around to about my sliders and how he went above and beyond.

I like those floor panels! I have the Sherpa Crestone, 2+ years and has been great, and they mounting plates that I use as a floor. I'd prefer panels like the WD style, I wonder if I could use them on my Sherpa.

I'm not sure how high they'd sit on the Sherpa. If you look at that image above and zoom in, you'll see that on the Westcott rack you have the option to have the crossbars at a lower level to set the roof panels in, creating a small basket. I'm not sure if they are flush or would stick up if you had them at the upper level on the rack and I believe the Sherpa only has that, right?

Hmm, the crossbars on the Sherpa sit flush with the top edge of the rack side rails. I have the full-width mounting plates attached to my crossbars right now, and they're maybe 1/8 - 1/4" thick? They do stick up, but not in a horrible way. :) My rotopax mounts are on top of those plates, and they stick up something like 4".

Odd question but can you run your 4R through the car wash with a WD rack mounted?
