Looking for options to black out my running boards rather than the cost to replace. I hate the strip of aluminum or chrome on running boards that came on my new ORP. They would look OK if they were just all black. Right now I have 2 Ideas DipYourCar.com HyperDip Paint or some kind of vinyl wrap tape. Does anyone have any other ideas or think either of mine would work?

I also plan to have the bumper valances swapped out to black in future. Fall back I kind of like this set of running boards other than cost. https://alamoauto.com/running-board...-extreme-d1-side-steps-bars-only?queryID=null

Open to other new board suggestions too.

Black spray paint that is designed to self prime on metal/aluminum seems like it might adhere better than spraydip. There's a charcoal gray that might match the plastic better.

I've successfully used Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover metallic aluminum on two previous skid plates. It tolerated handling very well.

I would try a good quality vinyl wrap over plasti-dip. I did the chrome trim piece on the rear bumper of my Limited with a black matte finish and its held up great. It was my first time applying vinyl wrap and its pretty easy. The section you are doing is nice and straight so it should be easy even if you have never done it before.

OP where are you located? I've got a set of black OEM tube steps off my '20 that I'll give you if you take them away. Houston area.

That's an incredible generous offer. But I am in the northeast New England MA/NH boarder. Thank you anyway.

Decided to give the new plastidip called hyperdip a try. Looks much better blacked out , Key is will it hold up over time. Or at least until I get other mods done and circle back to install those rino steps I like.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

They look so much better now. Like you, I'm curious how long it'll hold up and look new. I guess time will tell!

I agree that it looks a ton better, but I'm pretty sure durability is going to be a serious issue. Remember that your front tires kick up a ton of road debris and much of it will end up hitting that very area you painted.

If I might suggest an alternative, you can generally pick up other models of OEM Toyota running boards that are all black plastic off of CL or FB Marketplace for pennies on the dollar. I purchased spare set - virtually brand new - for mine for only $150.

For running boards you were 100% correct. because my foot rubs the running board getting out driver side started to peel. Good news easy clean up. Not sure if anything will work.
Might try vinyl tape or may just have to get use to it or replace in future.
