Hi all - I had an ‘04 4 Runner for the past 12 years - just traded in for a ‘16. I always put Bridgestone Dueler AT (great year round - even snow and ice) tires on the ‘04, but wondering if those will be the best for the new one. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Falken Wildpeak AT3W. Excellent in the rain, excellent in the snow, excellent in the dirt, so far I have found for the money they are excellent.

I had the Dueler Revo A/T on my truck when i lived in Northwest CT and tgey3 were great on all situations.

I put general grabbers on last winter in VA with lots of snow and they did great as well,
And put Cooper discoverer st/maxx on this year( looking for a more aggressive off road tire)

From what friends have told me the falkens are very good in all situations as well.

In terms of ice & snow the bfg ko2 are so-so, loose traction quickly on ice though.

For daily driveability the Michelin defenders are pretty unbeatable.

Just keep in mind how you plan on using them, clearly i have changed tires more frequently then most, but I keep looking for offroad traction. The st/maxx are going to stay for awhile though.

I've never been impressed with the Duelers both in the past and on my new Limited w/ 20" wheels. That said, I've never tried the Dueler Alenza which gets better online reviews.

Sadly, there are very few options for the factory size 20" tires. My fix was to pick up some 17" wheels on Craigslist ($200) and mount winter specific tires on them for use during the few months I will need them. For the other 3 seasons the Bridgestone's are plenty adequate.

The BFGoodrich All Terrain AT KO2s that were mentioned aren't really an option for the Limited without significant modifications, including new wheels.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for all of your responses! I was wondering what the difference (in functionality and performance) would be with the 20" wheels vs the old ones (I think they were 16 or 17?). I felt confident with the Bridgestone Duelers for many years (several pairs of tires) - they lasted a long time, too - 50,000+ miles. I'm looking for good snow traction - I live in northern CT and have to travel a lot of hills daily, and of course value and general performance. I'll check out the different ones mentioned above. I had never heard of Falken.

Falken was primarily in the racing business. Developing tires for high performance. Their all terrains tires are great. Look nice, excellent grip and last a pretty long time. Also they aren’t too bad price wise. Average around the $100-150 a tire.

Thanks! I looked them up, the logo is familiar to me now. The tire you recommended looks nice, thanks for the suggestion.

The new 4Runner is very different from my ‘04. Different body, wider, higher, bigger tires. When I bought tires the first time for my old truck, about 12 yrs ago, I did research to see what was best for the performance I needed here in New England for that specific vehicle, so just being mindful of the differences on my new vehicle. It’s a very expensive purchase, so was just looking for feedback.

PS - I totally get what you’re saying Stokes. I am not great with “change”.
