best Suspension's for 2022 4R TRD ORP

Hey everyone, I just got my 4 Runner two months ago. I have added a Prinsu roof rack, Prinsu ladder, and just added some Falken WildPeak's AT/4s.

The 4 Runner has gotten really heavy, and just needed some suggestions of what is best to add. Suspensions, tuning, or what else... I am kinda stuck at this moment and trying to figure out what is best without me taking out the roof rack.

My budget is around $8,000 for this year.

I am now down to $6,500.

So I got some room to spend but just don't know what else can go with my ORP. An not feel like I am carrying such a heavy load while driving.

How much the the rack and ladder weigh? I imagine the stock springs handle them just fine.
Suspension won't help with the added rotational/ unsprung weight of the tires for obvious reasons.

For context:
What are you planning to use the rig for? Lift height desired? Okay with a firm ride, or do you prefer a softer feel?

 

I wanna go to the mountains, off-roading, sand, rocks, mud, water floods anything mostly. I want to go anywhere with it, and plus it is my daily for right now at the moment. Something both off-roading and something for the daily.

 

Off-roading but it is also my daily truck. I would like go to 2inches on front and back end. Ill take firm out of anything.
The ladder and rack weigh together for about 60 lbs

Yes, I do plan on putting more weight .
I do want to add the front bumper w/ winches and back bumper as well.
I am also trying to get a camper on top of my rack.
what do you think is best for suspension to hold all of that?
I have been looking into some Blistens or some Fox 4.0s with full lift kit.... I just need a veteran(4Runenr) to tell me whats the best for my buck and good my truck.

 

Lots of options out there.

Before adding suspension I would add some weight first and see how it feels. If you do suspension now and add weight later you'll be doing springs again... Been there.

Just make sure to do plenty of research before buying suspension. I went OME and it handles weight really well. But the lack of suspension travel is proving to be a problem for serious trails.
Swapping to Dobinson IMS long travel now.

Many people here will recommend bilstein as they have great adjustability and are pretty affordable. Finding the right spring/ shock combination for your target weight is key.

How much does the front/w winches weigh for what you have? What brand did you choose?

 

I have a c4 low profile bumper and warn 10s winch. The combination weights about 150 pounds. I PM'd you some basic info on OME if you decide to go that route.

Probably the best "budget friendly" suspension lift is the bilstein 6112/5160. Search it on Google and see if its for you. But theres a ton of other options. Fox and kings are awesome but both require valve tuning to be 100% setup for your 4runner, look on accutunes website(they are on this form as well)

A tune is a great way to help with the added weight and oversized tires without spending a ton of money. Yorawerx and ott. The both have threads on here to help you decided which one is for you.

Hey whats going on chief, what do you by they "both require 100% valve tuning setup". I thought was supposed to only bring the RPM or save gas... Am i completely wrong on what tuning is?

 

I was talking about 2 different things. The SUSPENSION valve tuning with high end shocks like fox and kings

Then about "performance" tuning.

King and Fox can be valved and tuned to all the extra weight you add (so it's not eating up travel/too soft), but you also valve and tune in addition to that for the type of driving/offroading you do. High speed desert, low speed rock crawling, some of both, etc. This is the benefit of the better shocks and working with a place like Accutune Offroad. There are formulas and algorithms they work with to get the absolute best performance out of your shocks for a given setup and driving style. Make sense?

An it has to follow that algorithm, Am I correct on that?

 

Be aware that Some shocks will need to be removed and rebuilt after so long. This may mean having the vehicle down for a few days while the shocks get rebuilt. I don’t know a lot about this process, I just know it’s a concern I have when I replace my suspension.

 

Anything with a nitrogen charge port needs to be serviced on a regular basis so king icon ect. Sealed shocks like Bilstein or OME are not serviceable.

 

Do the unserviceable ones last longer than the service interval for the others?

 

They will last longer then the service interval but you give up a lot of performance in the shock body and the ability to get it set for your rig trails and driving style

 

The algorithm a place like Accutune has accounts for things like overall vehicle weight with add-ons (bumpers, armor, etc) tire/wheel size and terrain. It then provides the optimal valving and flutter disc stacks to use in the shock during tuning to maximize performance and feel for your particular set up.
