Hey folks, I am about a day away from deciding on a 2024 OR 4runner. Seems like some nice discounts going on right now, lots of vehicles on the lot. Maybe because people are waiting for the 2025? I'm coming from a 2022 Tacoma and oh, here's why:

    IMG_0445.jpg

Hopefully I'll have better luck with the 4runner!!

Any advice for me as a hit the dealership and start to move on this?

    Thanks!

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Demand has softened on all vehicles = inflation hitting the wallet. It is a buyers market for those who have cash or good credit.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

This is absolutely true, but in some states like Montana, Wyoming, Alaska (where dealerships are scarce), that rule may not apply. I don't think he'll see a "market adjustment", but the dealerships may stick to their guns and ask for MSRP.

The OP may be best served shopping out of state. Hell, back in late Sept of last year I got almost $5k off my 4Runner. And yes, I have excellent credit and I had a sizable down payment ($25k). I learned to never be upside down on a vehicle.

Oh, OP: Don't wait for the 25's to come out. It may take a few years to work out all the bugs from the new Hybrid motor. Get an ICE while you still can.

Figure out the exact model/trim/options/color you want. Never go to the stealership until the day you pick it up. Always ask for the fleet sales manager when calling. Play one against the other for the lowest price, lie a little to them, they’ll do in to you in spades. Pay cash via wire transfer, if not possible, obtain your own financing through your own bank, credit union, military credit union, whichever has the lowest annual percentage rate, Penn Fed has some good rates right now. Use multiple dealer’s websites to shop for the exact vehicle you want before you call. Write down the vin# or their stock number and ask for their best price on that exact vehicle, prevents bait and switch tactics. Don’t be in a rush, if you finally find the exact one you want at the lowest price, don’t be afraid to choose one in transit or in production, then put a $500.00 deposit on it and ask for a call when it arrives. Don’t bite when they call to say we found one almost the same coming in or at another dealer they can dealer trade with, say no thanks, I’m in no hurry, I’ll wait for mine to get here. That drives them crazy because they want their commission RIGHT NOW! Call every dealership in a 1 to 500 mile radius as a gauge to who is the most motivated dealership and use the price as a pry bar against other dealerships. Don’t be afraid to laugh at them and literally hang up on them, they have thick skin like a Rhino. Currently, the new car sales market has softened dramatically in the last 6 months. Expect discounts between 2.5 to 10% off 2024 4Runners (except the TRD Pros). Get in the ring and start grinding the shit out of them, it will save you a ton of money you can use for mods. Welcome to the forum! Now give em hell!

Welcome from the Far North. I agree with Borracho Loco and DesertSurfer, shopping for price in Montana may leave you with a limited set of options (I lived outside of Helena for 4 years). Alaska is even worse for car shopping. Best wishes - I'm on my second 4Runner - they're a great rig! Keep the rubber side down this time.

    Thanks for the welcomes everyone.

Yes, I am seeing $2500-$3000 off TSRP on most 4Rs. Tacos are showing no such discounts.

Agreed. And for me, half of the point of getting a 4R is the tried-and-true aspect.

    Fantastic advice, thanks!

Yep, dog and I got out while the Taco was dangling; a few minutes later if rolled down the ravine! Narrow escape but not a scratch on us, thanks.

No? Dang it! I guess I got confused on log-crawling; didn't know they had to be horizontal!

    Will do my best!

Taking delivery tomorrow!! Metallic black OR with crossbars, black wheel locks, TRD skid plate, black chrome lug nuts, TRD black wheels, and thank God, the owner's portfolio!

I think I got a really nice deal. MSRP was $44.3k, TSRP was $47.7k, plus $499 documentation = $48.2k total. But, there was $2.9k Lithia discount, they threw in the rubber floor mats and cargo mat and gave me a $300 discount on the lifetime oil change (net on that = $500), and with a further discount, got me out the door for a clean $45k for everything.

So that is a $48.2k TSRP + $300 floor mats + $800 lifetime oil change = $49.3k, and I got out the door for $45k.

Then, trading up from the Dunlops to Open Country AT3s will cost $480 (anytime I come back with less than 1000 miles; that's from $100 refund for each of the 4 Dunlops and the current buy 3 / get 1 discount). I'm going to try out the Dunlops a bit but am pretty sure I will change.

Surprise bonus #27 of owning a 4runner: in every pull-down menu I see (from the dealership, autotrader, mod sites, etc.) "4runner" comes up at the top of the list of models! No more scrolling down.

No jokes about whether or not I will make use of the lifetime oil changes given my last vehicle (the photo at the top of this thread); it's too soon to joke of such things. (as Morrissey sang, "it's too close to home, and too near the bone").

OK, well, I'll tell you, but I think you're missing the point of my post ;-) The are NuVue garden covers:

    Amazon.com : Nuvue Products 32103, Black Pest Guard Cover, 36" x 36" x 38", 2 Pack : Patio, Lawn & Garden

They seem to work fine. I've had them on some tiny transplants for 2-3 years and they are holding up ok--a bit faded with the sun, and if you poke too hard at the netting now it will break, but not bad after 3 years.
