It has the Marlin Crawler RCLT. Not a bad kit but it requires a high level of commitment. It’s a custom spindle, upper and lower control arms and a LC200 steering rack.

That’s because I almost bought it. It’s just that every time I call Marlin they freak me out and I run away.

That was 2020ish when it hit the streets and Marlin got Covid crazy. You couldn’t plan your build because Marlin was unable to commit on shipping. In retrospect, I probably would’ve had better luck with Marlin because Fox really strung me out. :(

Is it me, or are the shadows of the runner and ramp on opposite sides?

I wonder if the shadow from the rack is actually drag marks on the concrete? It is odd....

For all the $ that costs, IMO a SAS is a better bang for the buck.

I'm more impressed with the Taco Box low range set, the Marlin shop truck has a 500:1 crawl ratio. You can get out and walk faster.

I think this comes down to what type of off-roading you do.

If you're into slow, technical stuff and that's it, I would go SAS. Or, buy something that has a solid front axle.

If high speed is your thing, then long travel IFS might be better.

One of the WI Tacoma guys got a crawl box, and it's awesome!

This is a 4th gen 4Runner. It was formerly run in the KOH by Steel City Racing. It is now owned by Toyota of Walnut Creek California, they have run several Ultra 4 series races including the last 2 KOHs.
It has the MCLT, Portal axles, and a revamped 4 link rear suspension. It has a roll cage, fuel cell, and lots of other modifications. They have blown 3 LC200 steering racks in the last 2 years, so that rack is not suited for hard-core wheeling with heavy tires and portal axles imo. This vehicle is also not street legal.
Sherpa Racing also runs a 4th gen without portals, and they have had more success.

SAS makes sense for crawling, but an IFS LT is much easier to tune for fast desert sections, which the Ultra 4 series has a combination of both crawling and high speed.

Dirt King, Total Chaos, Solo Motorsports, also make well built kits with a much better timeline than Marlin Crawler. Very happy with my DK kit. I've also read that "Wicked Creations" should be avoided. Tacoma World has an extensive LT section if you're interested.

Yeah, I was going to write a longer post saying essentially that use case matters, then got distracted lol.

Dirt Lifestyle Nate uses this kit on his Taco with good success, his biggest takeaway from it is that it's great in snow wheeling because of the clearance, and it's nice to be able to drive the truck 10 hours to the trail in comfort.

I was thinking that long travel might be good for that type of use as well. Given the choice between that and a SAS, I might go long travel personally. Bur, I haven't looked at pricing. That would definitely be a factor.

Ramp is at a very similar angle to the shadow and going down the opposite direction of the sun. Thus not making much of a shadow -- you can see some of the shadow if you look at the base of the ramp and concreate. The "shadows" you do see in the opposite direction are from objects behind the camera OR (as someone stated early) markings on the concrete.

I called Marlin Crawler the agent said nope no KDSS compatible version available. The KDSS needs to go away, and I will never do that. KDSS makes this truck less truck like and I love it for that

Check out 72weld for portal axles. Interesting option vs LT or SAS.

In addition to all the visible front suspension changes,
This looks like a competition race rig for KOH:
    No windscreen
Outlines of internal roll-cage with center bar
Fender flares and sticker front headlights indicate it has a totally fiberglass front body.
I believe it has custom rear links and suspension
And it looks like some type of 1-ton axel in the rear.
It also looks to be on portals.
Oops I see the reply with all the details.
