Fuel tank shield

Hello all. My fuel tank shield has basically rusted off. Two questions...where in the heck fire can I find a new/used one? No wreckers around here have one. Next question, my mechanic tells me my gas tank could fall off without the shield as its now only the strap holding it on. Is this Really true? Thank you!!

 

One more thing...will a 95' plate fit my 00'?

If the fuel tank shield is rusted off, then i guess the straps that hold the fuel tank up could also be rusted, but if he is thinking the shield is going to hold the tank up, you may need to find a new mechanic. I would get a after market skid plate for the gas tank, i hope this helps.
