Let me first say I like my 4 runner so far and have owned mine since August of 2023. It's no surprise that I am also big fan of my VW and Audi products. My 4 Runner is my first jump into the Toyota market. I did have my interest peaked however when it was announced the rebirth of the Scout brand under the VW ownership. I've never owned an EV vehicle and would prefer a gas over EV for the convenience and range. What is everyone's thoughts on the rebirth of Scout? Do you think VW and Scout could potentially make a great 4x4 EV vehicle? One that is rugged and be a contender for the next generation 4 runner? So far with Toyotas next gen Tacoma and Tundra I am not a fan at all of the styling. I find them kind of ugly. The sketch of the new Scout in the following article looks nice to me.

    https://www.caranddriver.com/scout/suv

From the sketch. Look at how close the wheels / axles are to both ends of the vehicle. Talk about crazy approach and departure angles. SMACK UP TO THE EDGE.

    :eek::eek: :yes:

    We’ll see when it arrives.

Obviously not a recreational overlander’s first choice but for a day-tripper it could work. Modding probably will trim range like it does ours.

The big question is what its price will be and how it’ll be positioned. My inner skeptic is expecting another luxury, higher-than-the-announced-price vehicle in the vein of the Jeep Wagoneer, Silverado EV.

Definitely a no-go for folks like Yotaholic but for a suburbanite with the occasional mountain excursion, I think you could certainly do worse. (since you’re trading gas fillups for a full battery every morning - assuming home charging - but longer stops long-distance)

But hey, if it’s done well and not overpriced I can see it carving out a niche like the Ridgeline but I’m hardly a professional car industry analyst.

Bonus points if it goes farther than 2 miles/kWh like the F-150 Lightning since that’ll save at the charger.

Considering the platform the next gen 4Runner will be on, I would not believe an EV could be a contender. EV's may be great in urban areas but the range is the main limitation.

Wait until you load it down with a winch, lights and all sorts of "Overlanding" goodies that will detract form the range even further. Our fuel range is not great but were just a quick stop at the gas station, or a jerry can away from continuing our adventure.

Sorry if you feel this was a thread on 6th 4 runner speculation. It was a discussion about the rebirth of Scout and under the VW ownership.

I can say on the plus side. The paint job will last longer.

My only two real complaints so far with my 4 runner is the backup camera and possibly the fear of it rusting early in various locations. Everything else I can put up with because I like the old school charm it has.

Here is hoping the new Scout doesn’t hit the luxury tier market. I hope they understand a 4x4 enthusiast might enjoy some creature comforts leather seating, good stereo, payload / towing + off road capacity. Give us 7-8k towing.

I actually think that would make a fun test or YouTube challenge. The solar market and batteries have changed a lot over the years. To counter the range issue what if it towed a small off road trailer that had all the solar panels and a charging bank one may require? That could be the next gen of overlanders challenge. How long could one stay potentially in the field WITHOUT a trip to town or a gas station? Charging only on banks of solar arrays you tow in with you? No need for Gerry cans. Just keep it plugged in and enjoy your time a bit longer per stopping point. Sounds fun to me.

Awe sad to be so closed minded. There aren’t many brands I would completely shut down. All brands have their fair share of flaws across the board. I still feel the top two in terms of reliability are VW and Toyota. VW would be hard pressed to screw something up so badly when it has prestigious mechanical engineering groups like Porsche, Bugatti: Ducati, Audi etc to name a few. Borrowed technology between brands. Can’t say you don’t like VW when you probably love a Bugatti Veyron or Porsche 911.

Some of you may know about the overland train Nuclear powered? They were forward thinking when they were trying to design something that could be self powered without the need for gas or diesel.

Imagine like my last post about potentially being able to stay out longer if you can charge or “refuel” your own vehicle without going to town maybe via Solar arrays you can tow in with you?

If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it. :smack::yay:

So my disinterest in VW makes me closed-minded in your opinion?

No, absolutely not. That 6th Gen thread is mortally corroded with shills, sock puppets, influencers and infomercials. Better to start fresh.

We need a Gen 2 version of the 6th Gen thread.

Your right hard to read into a one liner. With just that I would say absolutely. 0 interest in any 1 brand is hard to imagine unless you already had some prejudices against it maybe? Maybe bad experiences with one you owned? I'll let you explain why. It sounds like you would NEVER consider any VW of any shape or form? Do you work for Toyota and is it your job to downplay any brand other than this on a Toyota Forum? Eh it's just what your paid to do right? o_O J/ K :crapstorm: I think I could look at most brands and find at least one car I may consider owning. Given certain situations of course (age, income level, family status). I'd be like Jay Leno given the right financial situation. I like many cars for their uniqueness.

Always wanted an international scout. My neighbor had one and I wanted one ever since. One day maybe.

There was an old joke about international many years ago. Car manufacturers generally make their money on parts and not so much on the car itself. The joke was that international automotive division went out of business because they didn’t sell parts. They didn’t break.

If there were such a thread, I don't think it would take two whole days to get into the same state.

Kinda looks a like rivian suv was mated by a bronco and they had a bastard child. Or maybe it was the other way around
