Failed pull that was nearly deadly

I learned some good stuff from watching this - and I say that after more than 25 years of working in Emergency Services as a firefighter and EMT. Always something new to learn.

 

We always lift our hood when doing stuff like that. Guy in AZ died last year when the hitch attachment broke and flew through the windshield and killed him.

 

That was a sad one. It was another example of somebody buried up to the axles trying to yank out without digging first.

 

Kinetic rope is great for recovery, but it stores a ton of energy by design. If you're bogged down/vacuumed in mud, the likelihood of the rope snapping is much higher - and that energy has to go somewhere. Not a great option for that type of recovery - unless you're heavily dug out beforehand and the vacuum is mostly broken.

 

And don't pull from a trailer hitch, this one was deadly.

 

You always need to pay attention when you are winching and pulling. Unfortunately I've noticed common sense escapes a lot of off roaders. Glad he lived!
