21 TRD OR stock. So we just got back from Death Valley, had crawled for hours and then on the way up a canyon i was up against this rock, 3 wheels were digging in sand and smaller rocks but my front right was not turning at all, totally stuck, had to be winched up, much to my embarrassment.... I was in 4WL with lock on, what's going on, I thought I had front and rear lockers. I don't think I had other options turned on. Doesn't this thing lock in front diff? My 2000 stock SR5 did.

Only rear locker on the 4Runner, no front locker (and just off road and pro models have rear locker)

In factory form, A-TRAC (in the overhead console) is all you have available to limit front axle slip.

Nope, no front lockers. As others have said, ATRAC should get over that. If not, traction boards will.

Atrac probably would have gotten you out. However if the three other tires were slipping and only that one tires was responsible for pulling you up, it would have be pretty rough on things. The brakes would be hammering away potentially sending sharp power pulses to that corner.

Regardless, no shame in getting winched up.

Your 2000 SR5 came stock with front and rear lockers?

Sorry for the “learning experience “, I suggest you spend some quality time with your manual. Learn about ATRAC and the e-locker. I couldn’t tell from your post that you had your traction aids engaged.

No shame in winching, mush better choice compared to the skinny pedal.

I'm always surprised how many people dont read the manual on how to use the offroad controls.
If not used properly, it's very likely that you'd be stuck when you could have got unstuck, or worse, that you'd break something because you didnt know when/how to use the off road features.

Im not talking about a small option like auto healights here. Im talking about critical features like 4hi,4lo,rear locker, atrac...

When I bought my truck I did a decent amount of research to see what features were available and the ones that were not.

No shame on being winched but shame on not reading the manual or learning the features before going in the middle of nowhere

I have decided to win the Mega Millions Lottery tonight, and when I do, I'm buying everyone in this thread a front locker.

A little thing like that... just back up a foot and bump it, and you're on your way.

And what trail were you on?

We went up Mengel Pass and down. Couldn’t have done that without my friends that have done it and wrecked a little plenty of times before. I was lucky to come out with one bumper scratch n a lost mud flap. Fun fun!!!

You'd still be $2 billion poorer than Oprah after you win, assuming you're the only winner.
