Good morning, first time poster, and not really much of a mechanic. Recently I pulled the body off my wife's 4Runner to fix the frame. After sandblasting, fixing the frame with SafeT Caps, timing belt, water pump, and radiator I can't get it to crank. I can jump the starter and it cranks over, but the fuel pump isn't pumping and there's no power to the coils. We've looked all the plugs over, and I'm wondering if there's a safety/security that needs reset? If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate. Thanks J.R.

The first issue is to figure out why the ignition key doesn't activate the starter.

The only security system would be a dealer installed one. You'll need to know if you have it or not. If it's a TOYOTA system, you'd probably have a security LED installed to the left of the steering column.

If no security system, you need to look at the wiring diagram for your car and see what needs to be in the loop to activate the starter relay.

Since you pulled the body off...I wonder if you messed up the shifter. I believe that needs to be in the proper position for the ignition switch to work.

There's a switch that says something about security on the center console. I'm not by it at the moment and I can't remember exactly what the switch says. There's a slot cut in the shifter linkage and I marked that before taking it apart. Maybe I'll block it up and disconnect the linkage and see if I can move it around and get something. Thanks again J. R.

I have to wonder about disconnected or poor electrical connectivity on grounds in that situation.

I checked the grounds with a voltmeter, and that all checked out good. Thanks J. R.

Post a picture of the security switch.

If it is an aftermarket setup, you'll have to figure out what it is. I would work to remove it.

Vegetable farmer by day, welder by trade. Not afraid to get in over my head on something I guess.

Not aftermarket security. But am unfamiliar with it regardless.

So I thought I knew what I was looking for as far as the security system goes and then I found the build sheet, and it says it has the RS3000 Security System. Does anyone have any suggestions on my next move. TIA J. R.
