So if it is still running while someone opened the door a good thing ? confused I want to install it, and the dealer's remote start shots off the engine if door opens. which one is good?

1.) Yes. This is how 99% of other vehicles remote starts operate, even OEM ones. This way, you get in, proceed with your normal starting procedure (foot on brake, press start button -or- key in ignition, turn to run) and go on your merry way.

2.) The Toyota (dealer) version will shut the vehicle off as soon as you open the door. You will have to get in, and restart the vehicle from scratch. The "Takeover" override is superior to Toyota's OEM remote start and what the OEM remote start should do anyways. Why Toyota feels they have to be different than literally everyone else is, well, nevermind, thats actually to be expected :D

Nobody can steal the truck either way, as you will be unable to move the gear shift out of Park while in remote start mode. If you attempt to do so without starting the truck normally, it will stall. It just causes the 4Runner to behave like every other factory OEM remote start system out there.

@Technologic80 since you have this kit and a code scanner, does your code scanner list all the different systems and if they show as “ready” or “not ready?” If it does, can you remote start and then plug in and see if they all show as “ready?” Failed a few emissions tests due to a previous remote start with takeover. Don’t know why, but it would cut power to some modules to keep the vehicle running when the door was opened

I have scanned my 4Runner with CARISTA and a generic OBD2 scanner since installing the R/S and systems are ready and no codes are present. The remote start powers on all circuits, including the radio, so I couldn't imagine other modules would be offline at any time during the remote start process. The only thing that happens when pressing the brake during the takeover is that the radio restarts. That is all I have noticed.

I wonder if accessorides offers options to alter current remote starts already installed. I currently have their remote start installed in my 2020, and definitely wouldn't prefer to drop a few more hundred dollars for the takeover.. but it's sure tempting

I emailed them and they told me the modules are different, therefore no upgrade path with their non-take over system. I installed the non-takeover in December and just ordered the takeover. Received last week and installed over the weekend. The modules look the same and have same model number DB3. Even visiting directechs.com, they can use the same module, just need a different firmware (TL19 vs TL15). The wiring harnesses are definitely different though. All real details are locked behind a wall just for their dealers.

Have you guys tested the security feature of the take over? Just for kicks, I decided to move the shift lever without pressing the brake. The car stalls, but then immediately restarts itself without any action on my part. If I move the shifter again, it will kill, but then restart. Do any of yours do this? Seems like a very confusing outcome as to why would the car keep restarting on its own.

You are correct. Mine does the same thing. That is very strange for sure.

good way to make money I suppose. They told me I could reuse my smartphone module thankfully so that saved me some $$. Looking forward to installing it.

Here's a video demonstrating the issue.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOcBnFB9snc
I do not consider this the right exception behavior, so I've requested to return the device and Accessorides accepted. They said this is expected as the install guide says the car will shut down if the shifter is touched. This does not appear to be shut down as the car restarts
I've reinstalled my prior non-take over Accessorides system. Not worth the added cost since I already have their other system and there is no upgrade path to this one. For me, it needs to be perfect to justify buying two systems from them for the same car.

    .

The quick answer is we would consider this user error as following the correct takeover procedure you would never see this. The OEM Toyota remote start does this too you just never notice it as it shuts down when you open the door. May seem strange but completely normal nothing at all to worry about. As noted it IS in our install guide so it isn't an unknown issue to be tackled - it's working exactly how it should be. Could it be addressed in future updates? I can't say no but it is not a priority at the moment as it's 2 independent systems doing exactly what they are supposed to given the conditions. If anything it will still shutdown when messing with the shifter just won't restart. System 1 says someone is messing with the shifter when they aren't supposed to and shuts the truck down. System 2 says the vehicle stalled let's fire it back up. For anyone else considering simply get in and follow the normal takeover procedure and you will never even know this was a thing unless you read it in the install guide. :) Thanks again for all your support the the feedback has been great!

I agree, and per the install guide, I knew it would shut down if the shifter was moved, but I didn't know it restarted on its own until I tried it after reading the post from unrealii. It is not a big deal to me.

I would never want 2 modules in my car, each having a different view on what the state of the car should be and then actioning as such. I've seen unpredictable behavior in the past when modules are not in sync and its a line I draw when introducing modifications to my car. Bumping the shifter is not outside the realm of possibility with loading a car with a dog and in the future - kids.
The install guide is misleading when it says the car will shutdown because that is not the end state.
Most of you will likely disagree with this perspective and thats fine, its more important that its disclosed than gaining acceptance.
I am grateful for accessorides to package such a system (the non-takeover system). Modules and the t-harnesses are not typically available at the consumer level and for self-install.

The 20-24 models use a completely different ECU setup. There would be nowhere to plug the current kit in on the 10-19. We would like to get those covered as well but have no current timeline at the moment. Sorry I didn't have better news for you!

Hi, I'm considering adding the Accessorides w/Takeover kit to my 2022 TRD Sport but wanted to know if I'm wading into any warranty voiding issues here. Anyone have issues taking their vehicle into Toyota with an aftermarket remote starter installed?

It would be illegal for them to void the warranty because you installed something on the vehicle. You can look up the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act for more information on how it works. Keep in mind these same dealers are also installing all types of aftermarket accessories (remote starters included) and wouldn't be doing so if it voided your warranty. There are definitely some service advisors that may tell you different but that doesn't make it true. Now if you somehow damage something during the install say break a panel then they would not have to replace that panel under warranty as it doesn't apply. Hope that makes sense for the most part dealers are on board and you won't run into any issues - they won't know, ask or care that you have anything installed. By all means if you ever need to troubleshoot something you can simply unplug our harnesses put it back to stock and then the dealer has no reason to point any fingers if you find a stubborn one. Hope that helps let us know if you have any other questions!

I have this installed and I can’t imagine going without it. Does anyone know if this causes issues with getting a tune? Thinking about doing an OTT tune.
