Flew into SFO for work this morning. Upon perusing the Emerald Isle I passed up the Wagoneer, Challenger, A5 only to hop into a 23 SR5 with TRD/Nitto wheel and tire package.

Comparing the drive to my 22 ORP, I can definitely tell a difference in the F/R weight ratio. My ORP has no 3rd row while this SR5 does. Without the 4WD in the SR5, I can feel an improved F to R weight balance. Am I imagining things? A little less nose dive. Suspension feel a little different, less of a load on the front and more weight on the rear. 14k on the rental and 17k on my ORP for reference.

How about we meet in the middle, I have a 4wd SR5. That’s my choice.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

    1) The 3rd row is absolutely worthless. Only a midget can sit in that seat.
    2) 14k miles on a rental is like 100k on a privately owned car. You should always think of a rental car like a hooker. Everyone has ridden her, and no one was gentle with her. They abused it so bad that you should never buy it (or marry it!)

Go back home to your loving ORP. It has dinner on the table.

Haha. I’m not saying I’m trading or considering buying this rental, not a chance I’d do that. Just mentioning the differences between the two models I have noticed.

The only thing I don't like about my 2020 Limited is that 3rd row. I'm not ruling out a conversion... someday... maybe

My back and being limited in which vehicles I can sleep laying down are certainly big cons!

I fit just a touch uncomfortably in my Sorento's third row but no chance in hell I'll fit in the 4Runner's. (The power of independent rear suspension!)

I can just sit upright in the back without a tray or third-row and my head doesn't run into the roof.

But as for driving dynamic differences, I can see a couple hundred pounds being lost easily losing 4WD but I forget what the third-row weighs.

Not really apples to apples since my TRD have full skids including rear diff, shock guards, lower link skids. But still my 3rd row Limited rear seems to be 100lbs heavier.

5000lbs is my TRD with all skids and sliders vs 5060lbs is my Limited with 3rd row, almost stock excepts for lift and tires, 17in wheels are less weight than stock 20in wheels.

The weight distribution difference is real. The 4WD hardware (T-case, front diff, CV axles, driveshaft) weigh about 200 lb going by memory, most of that on the front tires.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
The 5th gen is a tank.
My 2nd gen weighs almost 1,000# less and with just the weight of 22RE/5spd up front, much better approach angle, being narrower and along with the TruTrac in back I bet it would give our 5th gen a run for it’s money. The 5th gen has yet to see anything rougher than a dirt road…. Wife says no pinstripes allowed(yet).
Technically the 5th gen is my wife’s car even though she doesn’t drive anymore(vision).

An approximate net shift of 300lbs forward is my guess. I’ve been toying with the idea of a Dobinsons IMS setup, and now my interest is peaked even more.
