How do you replace the light bulb in this control knob? Yes, I know how to take it off. I have taken it off but, I did not see a light bulb in it? Where is it and what are they referred to? It is the one behind the AC button.20240316_181428.jpg

There has to be. I get light on the other ones but not this one. It's hard to adjust in the dark.

If it’s like old Toyota’s, the bulb will be behind the faceplate. It’s gonna require some more disassembly. I just replaced the climate control bulbs (3) on my 04’ Tacoma.

Interesting that it's out. I'd bet money the orange line indicator is lit with the same bulbs that illuminate the rest of the dials, piped in through fiber/LED something... That's old tech. The A/C light is just an indication for on/off.

The AC light works. It's the position indicator that doesn’t work.

Did you buy your 4R new or used? Also, do you have a photo of your HVAC knobs with the lights turned on? I just went out and checked, and turning on the lights lights up the "AC" letters on that dial, plus the indicator markers on all 3 dials on that panel. The light that comes on when you turn on the AC is separate. So if the AC letters don't light up with the headlights along with the indicator marker, there probably is a bulb out.

Here are some pictures that I just took. Does anyone know how or where the light bulb is for the indicator light, not the AC light? You know the one that tells you if it's pointed to your Facebook, your feet, both or ....20240318_215444.jpg 20240318_215424.jpg 20240318_215444.jpg

It is a used 4runner, not a new one. If it was new, I would have already driven it back to the dealer!

When I’m trying to find a part number, I visit the parts guy at the dealership. They have up to date and accurate information.

    Takes the guesswork out.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
Thanks for the pictures. At first I wasn't sure if this lit up or not, but then again, I haven't really paid attention to it. But it does! As someone else said, there must be a mini led bulb or fiber that lights it up.

What I was getting at is the AC letters are lit up, but the indicator is not. Could the indicator have an insert that is different? First thing I would try is swapping that little insert with one of the other knobs and see if the 'no light' follows it to another knob and vice versa with a different insert in the AC knob. Just throwing out ideas...

Oooh, I didn't even consider that. Great idea. Swap the knobs to see if the indicator lights up!

That would be a good test. Alternatively, illumination could come from a lighted ring on the panel under the dial rather than electrical contact with the panel. You should be able to identify where the light comes from by removing the dial.
