    Well guys, this sucks.

A few weeks ago I was driving when someone pulled out in front of me causing me to slam on my brakes. The groceries in the back spilled and an energy drink went under the passenger seat and exploded. Got it cleaned up but the next time somebody sat in the seat, the seatbelt chime wouldn't turn off and the airbag light would flash from on to off. Took it into the dealership yesterday and things got shitty.

After talking to the service rep after they tore down the seat, they're saying its going to be over $3,000 to replace all the components that the drink destroyed. I'm talking about 6oz of spraying liquid managed to make everything crap out. I'm getting my insurance company to cover the damage under comprehensive but holy shit, who knew.

Now I'm in a rental until they're done getting it fixed, but I will be damn sure to staple in a plastic sheet under my seat because apparently the electronics are super fragile. Ugh, my life haha.

So, you’re saying try to avoid submerging the vehicle and allowing water inside? Cause if it’s $3k for one seat I can’t inage the driver seat and everything between.

Right?! I can't imagine the price for repairs if water got inside past the floor boards. While I know it was my fault ultimately for this happening, it seems to be somewhat poor engineering that the electronics are so exposed to let something like this happen.

    That wiz quiz though haha.

Positive note I got a free rental through insurance. I got an F-150 so that ain't too bad. Worried I was gonna get stuck with a Kia Rio.

Update: Toyota decided this was covered under warranty and I walked away without paying a dime. I was shocked! Drove her home just now and couldn't be happier!

Another update: Toyota went back on the warranty claim. I guess corportate came back down and said fuckith no. Super awkward phone call with the service rep.

since they said yes originally are they willing to split the cost a bit or are you stuck with the entire thing since they are now backtracking?

To be honest I didn't ask. I'm about to leave on deployment and I didn't have the time to debate with them. I thought about telling them to pound sand but then I'm sure it'd go to collections while I'm gone which would be terrible.

    Adulting hurts sometimes haha

Pays to play sometimes and hate to say it but...it was nice of Toyota to try and cover it and I’m sorry it didn’t turn out in your favor.

Yeah I'm not salty about it. They told me the price before hand and it didn't work out so no worries. At least insurance covered everything over $1,000 and my rental for a week.

So a few years ago I left a diet pepsi can in the drink holder of my Tundra and left town for a week. it got hot, real hot. Hot enough for the can to "explode" but basically all that happened was the top popped and the diet pepsi flowed out and into the surrounding cup holder and then fully evaporated before I discovered it. Nothing on the headliner or surrounding interior. Easiest "mess" ever to clean up. I figure that was my one warning not to do it again.
