Since my 2008 is getting old I'm concerned that the cooling line from the transmission going to through the radiator will fail and ruin my transmission.
Had a friend several years whose 1999 4Runner coiling line rusted through and dumped coolant
    into the trans oil.
Anyone know what material these lines are or where I can find out. Thanks

They are a combination of metal tubing and rubber hydraulic hoses.

You can purchase replacement lines from Toyota.

But some just cut out the rusted metal tubing section and replace it with rubber hose with clamps.

Also on T4Rs usually those transmission cooling lines only rust out in the snow belt states where they salt the roads, same as with the frames rusting out, so if your T4R isn't from those states and you don't have rust issues I wouldn't worry about those lines.

That being said what happened to your friend wasn't due to a bad transmission cooling line, it was a common 3rd Gen failure inside the radiator allowing coolant and ATF to mix caused by a failure in the tank wall separating the two fluids, this is something I've not ever heard happening in 4th Gens.
