Wiper blade inserts can only be bought 10 at a time?!

Went to the dealer for new rubber wiper inserts and he said you can only buy 10 at a time. Well who want's 20 years of wiper blades? Anywho I get on to Toyota Parts Deal and sure enough they only sell 10 at a time.

Anyone in DFW want to go in on some blades ? I mean... I'm not tying up $140 into blades and storing them.

Dumb thing is the guy said they throw them away after so long b/c they go bad, well that's why you order one at a time dude. And how in the heck a dealership is throwing away blades is beyond me, w/ 10 brazilian 4Runners being serviced all over? They should be going thru blades like candy at fat camp.

 

Lol, pass on that for sure. I seriously doubt the OEM wiper blades are the best anyway. I've had great luck with many mainstream wipers like Bosch and Rain-X blades.

 

Why even go to the dealer for wiper blades?

The ones for my 04 Taco work very well and are $7 each which is why I do it as opposed to $40 for RainX or Bosch every 2 years. Takes 20 seconds to pull them out and put them in. Nice and cheap. Lol I dunno...

 

Because I've been replacing my Taco blades for years at 7 bucks for an OEM part. Why would you spend 40 for Bosch RainX every few years?

 

Nope, just want the $7 inserts. Wiper frames are brand new. Just need new inserts.

Lol I get it, but I don’t know what’s so bad about wanting to save money. 99% of us on here join because we like to do it ourselves and save a buck in the process.
And I’m partial to OEM parts, so that is on me. I’m no stranger for forking over more fore a genuine part over aftermarket. It’s not the money trust me. It’s the option to do it cheaper.

I was just surprised that’s all. Toyota has been good for so long for the little things like this. Oh well, it’s the times…

 

Not trying to convince you to buy anything. Just showed an example of a pretty cheap annual item. Save money and get what you want for sure.

 

My time is more important. I'm not making an appointment with the dealer (wait weeks to get one) and drive down there for a damn wiper blade. I can change in seconds.

I just buy regular Bosch's too so little cheaper then $30.

 

OEM Toyota wipers are pretty good. But with what the dealer tried to charge me for refills last time I went to Bosch this time.

Maybe find a major Auto parts store that has new wipers that accept refills?

 

Me either. Dealer is 1 mile, I buy an in stock part for $7 bucks (normally). I have it done is same amount of time for less than $20. Normally. Or, I order in advance from Toyota Parts Deal and get it delivered, for the same result.

 

The OE wiper blades are not great. I tried the winter ones on my Tacoma last winter and they were not great either. Just installed Bosch Icon's last week and they're worth every penny. Snow and water wipes away with ease.

 

Yeah we don’t drive much and cars are garaged. I work from home she’s 50% home and work is 3 miles away. I usually replace when they streak. however you are probably correct, I may just order the boxes of ten replacement inserts online and do it more often.

There’s still value in doing it that way. I’ll just have to store some extras like I do with filters and other common service items.

Being the wife’s car I tend to er on the side of caution when it comes to safety.

 

I just ordered some from Superior Toyota in WV. 2 front, one rear. Will be here tomorrow. $7 each.

 

Between my Tacoma and now a 4Runner I used almost every wiper available and none of them worked as well or for as long as just replacing the OEM inserts. Bonus it’s way cheaper to go that route too.

 

Inserts… lol. I’m in on your cut. My selling of pictures of my feet has done nicely for me thus far, I can afford it. This automotive themed BDSM really could be something.

Nice. Again it’s just something the dealer said they started doing recently, selling in bulk. Makes no sense to me. But the Toyota Parts Deal site makes you buy quantities of ten as well so maybe.

I’m really leery of dealers over charging or BSing me, so I always have a part number and a price if I use a dealers parts counter. I’ll figure it out…

 

There’s three dealerships close buy me here in DFW. I’ll pull the part number and call. If they have it I’ll do a will call order. Fingers crossed.

 

For the money I rather (and do) buy the Costco Michelin blades on sale ($8 per) or go on RockAuto if you're getting other parts for some Trico Extended Life (I think RockAuto's section color for these is black) ones which I didn't find to be much different.

Especially since I won't have to deal with a parts department. Visited Toyota of Plano and the parts desk was deserted until I asked around and it took a while for the guy to confirm fitment of things on the computer. Longo in Prosper was better and parts went the extra mile for me on an unrelated thing but I wouldn't drive up for wipers.

 

I have tried RainX hybrid, Bosch Icon & Bosch Envision. I too like OEM rubber inserts.
I hated the mist kind of thing after wiping with RainX hybrid, Bosch Icon & Bosch Envision. RainX hybrid mist like thing take longer to my taste. The regular OEM blades do not have this kind of fancy mist like think. They just wipe.

When the wipers blades start to streak, clean them with white vinegar and they will last until the rubber splits. Mine lasted 5 years.

I can buy a single blade at my local dealership for $7. Seems odd to have to buy a whole case.

 

Likewise -- they are smoother and work better than any aftermarket blade I've purchased.

I got tired of buying entire wiper blades that always end up being too expensive, and underwhelming in performance. Last straw was some expensive bosch blades that were way too expensive for the amount of time I got out of them. I felt like a sucker paying 60 bucks for a set of blades, and turned out I was.

I went back to stock wipers. I was able to buy the toyota inserts online and picked them up at a local dealer. The stock wiper refills have been as good, but usually better than anything I can get at the autoparts store.

NAPA sells refills but they cost as much as stock refills, and they don’t really fit right on the stock wiper body.

 

Dealers either do or say the most idiotic things, like sell toyota motor oil for 18 bucks a quart, or say things like toyota doesn’t make wiper blade inserts anymore, or they only sell them by the bushel.

Because of that stupidity, it’s very hard to rely on the people manning the parts department to have the most basic things “on demand”. I think all that’s left is ordering online through toyota and picking up at whatever location or having it shipped.
