Touch-Up Paint

Hi, 4Runner Family.

I just got a new 4Runner in January. I innocently enough managed to chip the paint on the door. I wasn’t happy with the first touch-up I did, made a second pass, and ended up with a quarter-sized atrocity (pictures attached). Any ideas as to how I can correct this? Thanks!

just kidding, never maaco... This is why I don't bother trying with touchup paint, I know I will make an equal monstrosity if it try. If its that small of an area can you live with it, or maybe since its a small spot see how much a reputable body shop would charge to do it. Hopefully someone with a better idea will be along, good luck

 

Thanks, Jester243 and Backslider. I did this in a 110-degree garage, so the paint became heavy and tacky on the applicator. I talked to the paint subcontractor at my local Toyota dealership today. As far as small-scale work, he told me he can’t do much differently or better than I did. He said my best bet is to wait for cooler weather, use lacquer thinner to smooth down the area that stands proud, then go from there, all at the risk of making it worse. There may be a lot of the factory paint underneath (I used Rustoleum for this). Thoughts?
