See above by @Old Tanker - went with HREW due to little off roading. My wife needs a step, and the Predator steps my 4R came with hung too low. I use them mostly to avoid sedan door dings, as a step, and for roof access. The dings I get can be touched up easily.

I really like the grip top plate.

can you get a picture from the front to show much the RSG sticks out? Going back and forth between RSG vs RCI. I know the RSG sticks out 1” further

Here’s I pix standing at front. In my opinion the slider is just about parallel to the bottom half of the rear tire on a stock pro, except for kick out. D0A18826-C73D-4356-BBDD-79D7EA5B3458.jpg The Pro uses a plastic piece at bottom rocker panel, so it won’t get chipped up from rock I suppose. That plastic piece has a flat vertical edge, I measure 7.125” from flat vertical edge to the outside of slider tube.

Here are the ultimate rock sliders! They offer a 0.1 degree break over angle and come standard with a special break away feature.

IMO, OEM looks the best. Clean and simple.

There is no oem solution that is functional for supporting the vehicle’s weight

Hit it hard enough and nothing will. My OEM frame mounted rails have held up fine for bumps and scrapes. Of course, everyone imagines themselves jumping their truck through canyons so maybe they're not for some folks. To each their own.

RSG angled/ plated sliders can work as a step when needed. They also work well to access items on the roof rack.
A dedicated step will work better of course, but I chose these for protection. Being able to use them as a step is a bonus feature.

These have saved my rig from body damage many times.

    Technically true.

there is a huge gulf between oem offerings and aftermarket off-road oriented offerings, for protective potential

goal is to prevent body damage that could be prevented via sliders. This can happen even in non severe off-road scenarios. For these situations, the oem offerings provide relatively low protection coverage

It’s too narrow for the avg adult male’s shoe size for it to be a convenient step.

simply going by pictures, you can objectively tell rsg is much wider than rci.

Going by others’ opinion is of course subjective. However the photos don’t lie and the popular sentiments on the internet seals the deal for me

I just realized that RSG has changed the look of their top plate. They now have their emblem cut into the top plate. Looks better than the old style IMO

the RSG is 1” wider than RCI (and Cali Raised). That being said, I’ve read many people who have said the RCI works fine as a step. I do like the more “slim” look of the RCI vs the RSG. However, I’ve heard of rust issues with RCI and I don’t like how their top plate is screwed on.

Oh shit you’re right they changed it up. I still like the old style more though. The raw stainless goes great with the classic silver.

Dont hate the duellers.. I have seen some impressive off-roading videos of them.

Duellers = more utility than most installed aftermarket bumpers.

The Duellers might be better than the Dunlops. But I see just as many dumping both tires at the earliest opportunity.

Mine have the old, riveted on black logo plate. I can see how the current iteration would save them money. Just add it to the laser/water jet program when cutting out the top plate.

Holy moly there are a lot of step options... Here's a quick summary of my research findings:

Average price of the 9 I looked into, as of 3/2/24, is ~$1,200. (All the %'s below are based off of that.) Options I chose: angled, with step plate, and powder coated.

RSG is the current top choice as it has all of these things and the step plate is welded on. Price was just off average.

Greenlane also fulfilled all of these but it's aluminum and the most expensive by +24%. (I'm a biased steel fab guy...) (These are much lighter, by half of the lightest steel options. 50 lbs vs 100+.)
TSO had those things but the step plate is bolted on and just shy of most expensive at +23%.
Wescott Designs also had all those things and is the same price as RSG. But they don't seem to spec the weight. I've also run across the RSG name a lot more...

Didn't choose C4 because of the extra coating effort and they are heavier. +4% (I'd rather put up with the chance of dings in shipment than have it done myself...note to the C4 people.)
Didn't choose Cali Raise because they aren't angled. -2% (Although I'm still somewhat torn on whether I want angled or not...)
Didn't choose Victory4x4 because the step plate is bolted on. -15%
Didn't choose RCI because of how shallow they look, considering I still need some step functionality. -17%
Didn't choose 4xInnovations because it's not coated. -25% (I acknowledge coating this would get me all of my options and cost much less.) (off the table if I go with flat)

I ran across Body Armor but they're out of stock. They're on the more cost-effective end but don't seem to offer a step plate option.

I also acknowledge that choosing an angled slider and needing steps don't really jive. Even writing this I'm waffling between angled or not and RSG and Cali Raised... I like the idea of RSG's grippy tread holes but Cali Raised with bedliner tread is cheaper...

Pretty good decision fatigue at this point.

I'm right there with you @DangitDad , I keep going back to the Greenlane because I live in a humid environment and rust is a constant battle. The weight savings is also very appealing for my lean and light objectives. I'm just gun shy of them getting banged up. My overlanding will be moderate, but I know that I'll be hemmed up from time to time.

Decision fatigue for sure. I’ve read too many threads about sliders on this forum, the other T4R forum, and Reddit. Seems like they’re all comparable and the decision ultimately boils down to which style you want (excluding the aluminum Greenlane sliders for the obvious reason).

Personally, I’ve been going back and forth between RSG and RCI and I’ve finally decided on the 5deg RCI sliders. I like their style the best and there’s something about the oval holes (vs the circles) aesthetically that I just don’t like. Also, I’ll be using them as steps (more so my wife and kids) and based on the other million threads on this topic, the RCI sliders seem to work well enough as steps for other members’ kids, wives, etc.

One of my biggest concerns was rust as there are people who have complained about RCI’s powder coating quality and rust issues. My understanding is they’ve improved the quality control of their powder coating process over the past few years. That being said, there’s a couple posts about rusting with nearly every other brand so I guess it’s an expected complication when these are used as intended. I’ll keep a can of Rustoleum around just in case
