16,000 miles already... Changed the oil and rotated the tires. One of these days, someone will invent a dipstick that can be read with clean oil.

Took a breaker bar to loosen the oil filter cannister. Effing dealer tech.

Got a Lock N' Lube grease gun with some grease to do the u-joints and prop shafts. Probably do that tomorrow.

Caught a ton of rocks to the front end in road work, so I made sure to look for any damage by cleaning it off and then waxing after. I somehow only got a small impact mark that I can have filled in on the glass.

Picked up oem crossbars for free off marketplace. Managed to get them on without gouging my paint. They'll do what I need until I decide I'm ready to waste money on another rack

Forgot to post that I added the Valvomax oil drain plug thingy. And here's a pic of the cannister when I took it off. Looks like the tech put grease on the o-ring.

After some trim on the light bar no more whistling is heard. Now I'm looking for some suggestions on some dry storage for the roof rack.

    Got sand absolutely everywhere.

Also did the front plate mount slightly cleaner with studs on a blank plate, riveted to the tag and sandwiched in a silicone holder.

Added some seatback covers and grab handles. It’s kind of a pointless addition but I like how it looks. My kids will probably use the grab handles though.

Christened my new Lock N Lube grease gun... Lubed the u-joints and prop shafts today. I used Valvoline Multi-Vehicle High Temperature Red Grease since it was listed as NLGI #2 and I also thought it would be beneficial to choose a red grease so I'd notice when the new grease was coming out.

I removed the front and middle RCI skid plates to do the oil change and lube.

One thing to note is that the front u-joint grease looked basically new (if I'm judging the color of the grease correctly), which I suppose makes sense, since that driveshaft only turns in 4wd. I don't see the need to grease them every 15,000 miles unless one uses 4wd often (just the opinion of a DIY non-mechanic).

I understand the procedure to check the propeller shafts is to pump grease in, then remove the zerk fitting and cycle the suspension to see if grease comes out. Right or wrong, I just gave them 3 pumps each and called it good. I'll add the step of removing the zerk fittings next time at 30,000 miles. I assume, though, that the same idea could be applied to the front prop shaft if one doesn't use 4wd often. I'd skip them at 15,000 (unless one was worried they were dry from the factory, of course).

Didn't get a pic of the rear u-joint, but it had the look of well-worn grease- dark black/ grey. This is the pic of the front u-joint before I cleaned it off. Red grease is new grease.

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is. Put in an oil catch can JLT P/N 3107D-B. Installation following the JLT video is fairly straightforward, though the bracket was digging into the VSV vacuum hose. I added some plastic split loom as chafe guards.

    AP1GczOJT3MNKDR478OIQ6_xqE4nDNqdsdw28o0A_061ed2777099ce0635ec5c892fb303d4f539cc2e.jpg AP1GczOL8Ei0p7RCvdAPNvMwZBi0nbPmkNkPFarB_e2c7effba4af231272e8b66c0605fe3eb64d74da.jpg

The mounting location isn't as tidy as the 2GR version, due to heater hose routing, but emptying the can is easier.

Considering our 4Runners can get as much as 300k to 400k with good maintenance, I'm curious as to why you want to install a catch can?

^First of all, "our 4Runners" is a stretch, because you have a supercharger and can look forward to headgasket replacement every 100k or so (but with many smiles in those 100k) :p

For NA 4Runner motors, the catch can's only tangible benefit is in steep off-road climbs. If you're fighting for traction and stay in a climb for several minutes, oil may pool in the back of the head and get pumped up through the PCV valve, which is at the back of the valve cover. If you aren't visibly burning oil on the trail, you aren't in the "corner of the envelope" situation long enough to need a catch can. For me it's just another piece of the build. Still a lot of work to be done before it's trail-ready.
