The fact that they recommend every vehicle from Mini, BMW, Porsche, and Kia should tell you something about their ratings.

Yeah, you have to peel the onion back on those "worst" and "best" car lists, and see what factors they're using. Some are based purely on owners who take the time to complete a survey, others are based more on sales data, others on repair data, etc. It seems though that most Jeep models (Wrangler, Compass, Patriot, Grand Cherokee, etc) make these "worst" lists. The fact that Wranglers are still so popular, despite being on numerous "worst" lists, is a testament to their marketing over their product quality, kinda like Harley Davidson.

I've never once looked at reliability ratings when buying a car, I just bought the car I wanted. I can totally understand why so many people like Jeeps.

A few years ago a friend of mine bought a Wrangler, and I think she summed it up perfectly. I asked her how she liked it, and she said it's the most irresponsible purchase she's ever made, and she absolutely loves it.

Sometimes it's good to just buy the thing that gives you the fizz rather than being so analytical about it.

I take zero stock in what consumer reports has to say. Nothing wrong with a Jeep. It's a fact they are king of the mountain when it comes to hardcore off roading. I've had them and they are the best at what they can potentially do. I also know they suck at everything else and at my age are just not pleasant on a daily basis. Some people enjoy a Jeep as their primary vehicle.....I was there once upon a time.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I had a 1st gen, 87 4Runner since 95, that I sold, still running good, a couple years back. I loved that little truck. Heck, I still have an 87 HiLux I bought in 88. It's still rockin and rollin!

NOW you know why I'd rather have a 4Runner than a Jeep...

I have a 22 year old TJ that I absolutely love. It’s like driving an 8 track player. Old school analog, bumpy, rattle machine. However as a beach cruiser/surf check vehicle with the top off it’s undefeated. A super fun off road machine too but I don’t really enjoy the 60-90 freeway drive to get to the goods.

I had this Gladiator Rubicon, was fun to drive with the top down. But that Pentastar V6 engine didn't inspire confidence (judging by the amount of blowby that was constantly being dumped into an oil catch can I installed), and it developed the dreaded rear axle seal leak. I owned it for a little over a year, and had it in 4wd maybe twice, and that was to check if it worked. It was definitely more of an impulse buy, so I got smart and sold it.
