Best "aggressive" looking tire with *street* performance :D

We have the Coopers on our 4Runner, they perform very well. Winter and wet is where they are great. We get ours in the LT version for added rock protection, they are quiet until the ending of their life, a bit more noise, but not unbearable.

 

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Firestone Destination AT2s. Swapped out some Geolanders for the Firestones and they're a much better tire all around.

 

Probably because they don't LOOK aggressive. At first glance those look like a highway tire. They don't look super offroad-y, but they probably fit most people's needs, haha.

 

You're probably right. They struck the right balance for me between offroad-y and onroad-y.

 

Cannot go wrong with MT At's. Over 20k on them now and they have been fantastic. Wearing perfectly (rotated every 5k) and have taken us anywhere we wanted to go.

 

I think the lesson here is: Tire opinions are like a$$holes. Everyone's got one, and everyone considers the other guy's shi^^y.

 

I run these, I'm happy with them.

 

If thats the case, I'd be in the classifieds here and my local FB Marketplace every 18 months or so picking up $400 take offs. You could buy a lot of sub-1000 mi factory tires for not a lot of money

 

You risk flat tire/s if you get tempted and make a turn on some more serious stuff along the dirt road.
Two flat tires you get on the trail, the expenses could have paid for all terrains.

 

Highway tires on the 4Runne just look silly. It's like those stupid minivan tires that you see on the Sahara Wrangler

 

Yeah, the XLT is a great looking tire, it has a mild tread and aggressive sidewall. My buddy runs them on his 80 series, I drove it for a few hundred miles and they were very smooth.

Unfortunately they're all E and heavy AF in the 17" sizes.

The new Cooper Road + Trail looks interesting.

 

100% agree. Mine came with highway tires, I actually miss the ride and MPG, but the look and winter performance was terrible.

Even a SL rated AT is a big improvement. I've wheeled on mine with no issues, but our rocks tend to be old and rounded vs. the sharp pointy stuff out west.

 

Good for you if you are disciplined enough to just stick to the dirt road and not get tempted by your truck's capability. I can't do that. Only it's angles and tires can limit this beast, otherwise it will go anywhere you point it to.

 

Not sure of the difference between what you suggested and these (below), but I'm a fan of Cooper tires as well...

 

My 4Runners are running on tire size 285/70R17, Cooper Adventurer ATs are only available in Load E in size 285/70R17. On road comfort is really important to me, So Load E tires are out of my list.

If you wanted street performance, some off road capability, and didn't care about aggressive looks, Michelin Defenders would be the best choice.

 

I've had a set of Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 for about 4000 miles. The ride is significantly better than the Bridgestone Duelers that came on it.

Would love to see what they look like on a 4Runner. Will be switching out my KO2s soon and looking for something a little more street.

 

Been very happy with the Cooper Rugged Trek ... Great in the snow and rain.

 

Michelin defenders. They are by far the best highway tire.

agreed. I took my Dudlops off at 400 miles and stored them in the garage. I’ll sell them real cheep to anyone.

 

Want to make clear what I stated, Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT’s, Wildpeaks and KO’s are great in snow, in Wet conditions, not so much for the Nitto and BFG’s

 

Anyone have an opinion on Toyo Open Country RT trail?

 

I haven’t tried them myself however I’ve read nothing but great things about the Michelin LTX defenders. My buddy swears by them in his 2500 Chevy diesel pickup he also does occasional light off-road but mostly highway work. Take a look into them. Supposed to be an awesome road tire and silky smooth.

 

This is what I have had on my rig for about 8 years now. They've quite honestly performed fantastic (you get what you pay for with Michelin imo). They're quiet and competent on road, they wear evenly, and there's still decent tread left on them. Snow performance is decent. No problems in dry or wet... all on-road performance. They don't *look* cool on the 4Runner, but they're great performers.

Are you saying that the Baja Boss, Wildpeaks, and [KO2s?] are great in snow and wet... but the Nittos and [which one did you mean by BFG bc you already said "KO"] are not?
