I have a question about a 1994 Toyota 4Runner SR5, it has 230,000 miles on it, but it has rebuilt heads and a new transmission. Would this be something to invest in or should I pass it by?? Thank you, Mike

Thank you all for the advice. Looks like I'll pass and save a bunch on this. Thanks again.

I don’t think I have the knowledge to really evaluate that on its own but things that I know folks will ask:

    What’s the price?
    How’s the frame? (rust)
What do you want out of it?

I’d wager it’s not going to be an “investment” in the financial sense but whether a 1994 meets your requirements for the price it’s at considering the rest of the vehicle’s condition, that’s really up to you. (until someone chimes in with arcane year-specific knowledge that may change that)

This 4runner is rust free and he's asking 8,000 for it.

A 30 year old vehicle with almost a quarter million miles for $8K. Not me. I’d offer $2500 but only if it’s clean and my mechanic says it’s good to go.

I have a 92 that is rust free and original engine and tranny, 145k miles and I know I wouldn't get 8k for it. Big hard pass.

I've driven every car I've owned until it's worth far less than the cost of repair. At that age and mileage, there are a number costly things that are near, at, or beyond the end of their useful life. Sure, there will be fewer of them bad in a well-kept 4R, but the chances of having zero lurking costly repairs is extremely low.
