I'm right next to Auburn, where do you typically go wheeling?

 

we go to cow mountain or Knoxville. I’ve seen YouTube videos on hollister hills and prairie city, those places look fun. Cow mountain has a small 4x4 course but it’s not as big as hollister hills or prairie city. Those places look fun to go to and just practice or mess around. But I’d be down to go wheeling forsure. Where do you take your 4Runner to?

 

I'm only level with stock size tires so mostly mild trails that I can find off 49 or 80 like back in Bowman lake road, etc.

Most of my trips are on roads and trails that stock 4runners can handle just fine. Sometimes I find myself crawling on routes like the Rubicon and Fordyce, but I turn around about the time a winch is required. I'm usually in 4Lo because I'm trying to reach some sweet destination, not because I enjoy crawling along banging up the underside of my truck. Eagle Lakes is about the limit of our trucks, Signal Peak is awesome, the Big Valley Bluff loop is easy but scenic, and there are many short trails along I80 between Verdi and Dutch Flat. Lowell Hill is fun for testing your truck, but boring otherwise and also inhabited by redneck tweakers. Stay away from Washington and that portion of Heness Pass; tweaker central.

Send all your friends to Bowman, it's pretty, but also congested to the point that I have problems passing people on the way there. And drunk teenagers on quads are a real hazard when you reach the lake. It's great off-season, though. Do the loop all the way to Highway 89 and come back via 80.

Here's one of my "secret" routes that I really don't understand why it isn't the most popular trail out there:

 

That place looks awesome. I do want to test my vehicle but not to an extreme yet. Once my 4Runner gets a bit more older than I want to try those places like fordyce and Rubicon.
