If I had the money to buy a spare 5th gen, I would instead buy a clean 80 series. The 80 series is the pinnacle of Toyota 4x4's offered in the US.

Once upon a time, I had a blue and white 1970 VW pop-top camper bus in near mint condition, which I purchased from the original owner for $1650 back in the early 90's...That would be my pick.

Nope. :p Having owned a 2nd gen Tacoma for eight years, I prefer the 3rd gen I replaced it with. I actively avoided 2nd gens when looking for a daily commuter a year ago.

Ha dude.. 5G is cool.. not cool enough for a spare on hand.

if the opportunity cost of not investing that $50k doesn’t trouble you (fairly rich), then buy the toy yota!

Even supercharged would still be lame. Definitely needs a 5.7L or LS swap.

I do like the sound of a good V8. Almost sounds as good as an I6. :duel:

I'd probably go LS if I were doing a V8 build.

Sport trucks are a thing. Maybe not everyone's thing. But, I can appreciate a tasteful sport truck.

The Ford Lightning, GM Typhoon and Cyclone, and Ram SRT10 are all badass in their own way. And, a good friend of mine has an LS2 Sonoma that's fucking awesome. Not something I'd do, but it's still cool.

I Have the money and the space. I will not be buying another 4runner. If my 5th gen is a pile after toyota having a decade to figure it out, I can't imagine how shitty the 6th gen will be.

No! Perfectly content with the one that I have! I am almost 62, this 4R might take me to the finish line! I can only drive one vehicle at a time and this 4R suits all of my needs!

I was being facetious. Have you seen some of the silly prices people have paid for brand new old and legacy vehicles?

    If I had F-it money...
I've got ideas to plan out a vehicle that I can drag my TJ (on a trailer) around the Western states in off highway excursions.
It's centered around a late '50's Suburban 3-door. Interior fold down bunk. No RTT! It can and probably will look scrappy on the outside but be very livable and clean on the inside.
    A healthy 454 BBC, SM 465 w/ Gear Venders O/D, and 1 tons.
    And maybe a dog.

I would not buy an ancient 4Runner if I had big money, I would buy the new GX Overland and buy my wife a RAV4 Prime.

I’ve been on the fence a while. I have a 2021 I use just to tow my boat with less than 2k miles on it. Also have an Accord for everyday use with only 70k miles (almost 18 yo). I’ve been debating getting another 4R and use that for everyday use. I am probably among the minority being single with no kids. I keep telling myself well it’s proven and I could use one for Everyday and then save the other for retirement travel.

But part of me says in the Midwest maybe I should not drive one year round and watch it rust out. I am sure even with fluid film that frame probably will not go 15 years with our road salt. It’s a first world problem I know. I am not a sports car guy anymore and also thought about Ridgeline where there is no frame to rust. I’ve always liked a V6 and admit the new turbos intimidate me a bit.

When you’re single with no kids you end up overthinking this stuff I guess. It was neat to read all the responses
