Was about to purchase DD backup LED replacement bulbs with the XPR bulbs but in the fine print at the bottom it says NOTE: The XPR bulb style is not compatible with the 2020+ T4R TRD Pro trim level.

I thought all 2021 models had the same tail lights so not sure why it wouldn't work with Pro trim. Weird that they work for every other 4runner from 2001-2023. I will reach out to DD but wanted to ask here also to see if anyone installed them first without seeing the fine print. Link below to bulbs. Thanks

I'm using just generic Amazon Sealight 921 LED bulbs on my TRD Pro since May 2021 and so far no issues. (Haven't had a chance to post that video yet and its 2023 )

Answer from DD below. Not sure why the Pro would have anything different than the others. Oh well

    Hi,

We've gotten several reports from customers with the TRD Pro trim level stating that the XPR bulb would not stay secure in the backup light socket, causing the bulb to not function. While we've been unable to confirm just yet the exact reasoning behind this, we do know that our stage 2 level HP36 bulb does not have this issue, and still has a significantly more intense light output than the OEM bulbs.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know!

I wonder if this XPR bulb has a non locking collar similar to what I have on Auxito backup LEDs. Its holding on just by that rubber collar with no locking mechanism unlike the other bulb I showed above. I think there could be a possibility falling off the housing even though it did not happen to me. With my experience changing bulbs on pretty much on all major trims the housing is same atleast visually and feel.

According to website, they either look like this or that, so not sure. May just say F-it and be a guinea pig

I’ve had the same problem with some LED 921’s bulbs from Amazon in my 2018 SR5. It’s basically just a pressure fit. If the bulb bases are just a hair too thin, they fall out.

But why this is just happening in the Pro’s with DD bulbs is a mystery.

I have the xpr in my trd offroad and as stated above they sit in the socket and stay in place(pressure fit). Decent output but worth the price? Maybe. I recently purchased their hitchpod and for the price(similar to xpr), in terms of light output, the hitchpod is the better buy.

Aha...!! Just as I thought in post #4. I don't know whats up with the TRD Pro thing on their site. May be TRD Pro suspension are rough the bulbs fall off?:crapstorm: We all should be having the same rear light housing I think.

Did we ever get this resolved? I just ordered the XRP for my 24 TRD Pro. Will they fit or not?

If you ordered them despite the fitment warning, you may have to find out when they arrive.

There is no difference in the taillights or connectors between the trims.
