What spare rim and tire did your car came equipped with and what was the pressure?

The reason I am asking is that my dash was telling me 55PSI, which is what I expected a gimpy emergency steel rim with an emergency tire to be at. However, today when I lowered the spare rim (prior to getting Krown) I was surprised to see full sized 20 inch rim with Geolandar G96 tire. On that tire it even said, "Danger! Do not inflate over 40PSI". Well, 55PSI is well over that.

Anyone else experienced this? Do you think tire got damaged by this over-inflation?

My 4Runner (Limited) has the same tire/rim as the other four. I didn't buy it new, so I can't say what it came with but I keep mine a little higher than the others because it mainly just sits there waiting on a flat, so it goes down over time.

Tires usually need a high pressure to seat the bead. 55 psi (if even real) on the tire that wasn't run should be OK.

The spare doesn't have a TPMS sensor from the factory. Do you have aftermarket wheels?

I have an 18 limited and the spare does have a tpms and if it gets low the tpms light comes on.

^Interesting, because there are threads of people trying to add and register a 5th sensor for the spare. Must be different for Limited.

So is the tpms on spare a limited only or does other models have it?

Yes, only Limited, but there's more to it than that. The Limited is the only trim that will display more than 4 TPMS sensors without being reprogrammed. There are a few threads here by people who have done the reprogramming.

Still, I think 55PSI on a tire that has a max 40PSI warning, that I double-checked with a pressure gauge, is a dangerous mistake that factory made.

Interestingly, I was driving today without a spare and it did not trigger low pressure dash warning.
