Hello all! This is my first post here and I am new here but I have 2 4Runners now and I am loving it.

The most recent one is a 2018 TRD Pro. It only has 80k miles on it so I expect to get a good long life from this one (hopefully).

My question is, after I got this one home and was cleaning/detailing it up I noticed a couple spots that I did not originally notice when I purchased it.

They are on the roof at the very front edge right above the windshield. I will try to add a couple pictures here to show you what they look like up close and the size from a slight distance.

What do you folks think about this? Is it a relatively easy fix for someone to do? How severe looking is it?

Regardless the rest of the car is a 9/10 and is almost flawless.

To me it appears to have been there for a while just looking at it and feeling it but I could be wrong.

    Thank you for any help!!

Welcome. Those look like rock chips that are turning to rust. I would try and get it fixed as it is already looking like it's spreading. To repair it correctly, the windshield will need to be removed.

Definitely starting to rust. 100% need to take care of it. It's not going to get any better and it will most certainly get worse. A good body shop can take care of it for you.

Time is of the essence. The longer you wait to get it professionally repaired the more expensive/difficult it will be to fix.

Thank you for your replies! I have reached out to the dealer I bought it from and they are going to have their”guys” look at it and see what they can do. And if not then I will get some quotes on how much it would be to fix.

If any of you happened to know a rough, ballpark figure of what I would be looking at it to get this fixed please by all means throw it out there. I am curious.

I hate to say it but the corrosion isn’t just that one spot, look to the right in your second pic about 6 inches…this could very well be a poor paint/primer issue that’s not just isolated to the roofline leading edge. I would carefully look around all ‘edges’, door framing, windows (rear quarter panel)…anywhere that paint application can be the thinnest and not just along flat surfaces.

Best of luck and I’m hoping it is only those two spots!
