6th gen Speculation Thread

I'm gonna have to disagree...

 

What interested me the most about how many fucking packages they have now is.....you can't fucking custom order a toyota. You get to pick what's on the lot. But now there's so many options you'll never find what you specifically want.

I'm curious if they'll move to being able to order.

Wow, that air dam is ridiculous. The style seems all over the place on the new Taco.

 

I'm sure it'll be the first thing some people remove. It's just there to squeeze out another .1 MPG.

 

The TFL guys did that with the pre-production model, I think it literally took the a couple mins to remove.

 

TFL had a video on it, I think they did it in a few minutes.

 

I wonder how much they really help. I wouldn't mind having one I could bolt on for longer road trips.

 

I think they did gain a little bit of MPG, I'll post a link if I can find it. But I agree with you, if I do a long road trip I would definitely use it and just take it off. They do look fugly but they do serve a purpose.

 

If it were me, I would just leave it off and slow down a mph or two on the interestate. It looks so bad with it on, I just can't even...

 

I drive slow when I'm not in a hurry for this exact reason. I'll take back-roads, or hang out in the slow lane and save a few gallons. Even with the 295 MT's, I've gotten close to 20 MPG at 55-65 MPH. Meanwhile, I'll get like 13-14 at 80.

 

For hauling stuff and road trips, my long range cruiser is a Ford F250 with the 7.3 gas V8, crew cab, long bed, so it comes with the large 48 gallon tank, it is a 4wd so it sits a few inches higher than the 2wd model. I stay in the slower lanes and keep it under 70, as a result with people, all the crap in the bed, I can get 18-19mpg cruising. I don't usually need to find refueling until I push past 800 miles on the tank so every 2nd or 3rd pitstop depending on how small my passengers' bladders are.

 

Don’t you think that prices have gone through the roof with new vehicles? It’s ridiculous people are buying so expensive vehicles. Sure people have made a lot of money too in past few years but these car prices are insane.
I keep thinking something’s gotta give when I see $80,000 vehicles. But I am still waiting, it’s like consumer didn’t mind it at all.

 

Like those Tundras, man, I see them around $80k sticker price, and you know there's still deal crap added on.

When did pickup trucks (traditionally work vehicles) become luxury cars? And how does everyone keep buying them?

 

I think banks are back to giving out "sub prime" loans again lol. Too many people have debt up to their eye balls, this bubble will burst soon enough I hope.

 

I suspect most of the higher trim folks don't *need* a truck. Its just the promise of what it means when I own a truck, not necessarily what I do with it. I suspect most such owners use it as regular vehicles. And when neighbors see you rolling in big, expensive truck they want one!

I still don't understand how it makes financial sense though. Even with OEMs moving towards 6+ year financing options, where is the personal responsibility?

higher prices + higher interest rates is not a good environment.

 

I honestly don't see how their pricing of the Land Cruiser makes sense. We know already that the Tacoma can easily creep up against 60k, and the TRD Pro and Overtrail aren't even online yet. I bet there will be a ton of TRD Pro Tacomas over 70k. I can't see the new 4Runner being cheaper than the old one, and the TRD Pro can already be optioned into the 60s without blinking. The pricing of the Land Cruiser makes me think the 4Runner is done - it just doesn't have a home in the price bracket of the lineup.

 

I think it might stay on par with the Taco. They have to, they can't overlap too much with the LC.

 

So 70k for a PRO? I'm buying a Land Cruiser if it's even 60s without blinking. This pricing does not make sense. The Land Cruiser starts at 55k - which is in the middle NOT top end of the Tacoma. There's no room in the market for another vehicle - I just don't see it (and I worked in price analysis for some of the largest companies in the US).

 

Banks will do the sub prime again because there are the people that try to act like they are rich by purchasing a car they can’t really afford. Unfortunately for them they don’t understand that most well off people don’t by the most expensive car.

 

Yeah the Pro makes no sense you're right about that. I think the biggest seller they'll have will probably be the TRD ORP like TFL got. I think they said they paid $45k for their Taco ORP.

 

With cloth seats, no BSM, no real options. It's into the 50s for the 4Runner no doubt.

 

Guess we'll see how they price it, but, they might keep it close to the Taco esp because the body of the 6th gen spy shots do look a little smaller than the current 5th gen. I also think they'll keep it slightly smaller so it doesn't cannibalize LC sales since the 5th gen is almost the same size.

 

If the top 4Runner crosses into the Landcruiser price range, Toyota will be sabotaging sales of their 4Runners.

I would definitely go for a Landcruiser if this happens.

 

But the LCs that are priced similar to the fully loaded 4Rs won't be as fancy inside, some might prefer the 4R just to get the fancier interior and amenities.

 

And don't forget the new Lexus Overtrail that starts under 70k. I see myself going for one of those for the wife in the near future.

 

They used to differentiate their products well. By making grill hideous but interior quiet and plush they appealed to certain customers. Now the GX550, LC, and new re-designed 4R when it comes out will be too close. There is a lot of ovrlap.

Something has to give -- maybe they make 4R more utilitarian, smaller strictly offroady? I'd be OK with that. So maybe 5th gen pricing isn't really a guide for next gen.

Otherwise I can not explain their pricing either.

And lots of trim models. That's a lot of SUVs to differentiate in price and options.

Landcruiser and GX looking almost exactly the same on the outside except for the front end. Same roof rack. Same window shapes. Same side panel designs. Same trim molding. Same divider line at the top of A-pillar. Same hood lines.
