When the weather conditions get wet, the front brakes on my 2014 4Runner make this high-pitched screeching noise when the brakes are applied going in reverse, only in reverse. Garage techs have investigated but can't find the cause. There is no noise when the brakes are dry.

It could be an intermittently sticking caliper.

Not saying this is the end all but give this article a read. might find something in it to help diagnose your situation. On my T4R, it occasionally makes a slight squeal first thing in the morning on a cold day (never in the summer) with dew on the windshield. My brake pads were down to around 25% (according to the last scheduled service) and I had them do a full brake job. Whatever they did in their brake service eliminated the squeal so whether it was lubrication, new pads (that fit snugly) or even new surfaces that contact the piston I’ll never know for sure.

    Good luck finding the culprit(s)!

Welcome to the forum, from North Carolina.

As stated above, Have you checked your front pads lately to see how much pad material remains? I wonder if in reverse can the low pad warning indicator\tab activate due to the reverse action and directional pull when braking in reverse?

    Just a thought.
