Backwards windshield washer fluid

I have a 2016 4Runner that I just bought & everytime I pull back the lever for the windshield washer fluid it sprays out the back. Every time I twist the knob on the lever for what should be the rear washer fluid, it comes out the front. They are completely backwards! Anyone else ever have this happen & if so, how did you fix it?!

 

Sounds like somebody replaced the control stalk and got the wiring reversed. Or maybe they used a cheap aftermarket part that's wired wrong internally.

 

My wife tells me I was put together backwards...........my feet smell.........and, my nose runs!

 

Could also be the washer fluid pump was replaced and wired incorrectly or the hoses were installed in the wrong ports.

 

My vote is there was work done on the washer fluid reservoir and the pumps' wiring got switched. Unless that's not possible.

 

I'm sure this isn't the case, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was wired wrong from the factory. I mean, just look at the steering wheel controls! Right is vol up, Left is vol down...

 

My bet would be two clear tubes are reversed on the pumps on the reservoir.

 

Swap the tubes around.

 

Second on the tubes swapped,any history of accidents on your 4Runner?

Is the pump easy to access?

 

@RumHamRunner73 Clean carfax so I don’t think it was in any accidents. Def seems like it would be as simple as tubes being switched but I know zero about cars lol

 

It sounds like the rotary and pull back lever/stalk are working correctly. And the pumps are also working.
I'd bet that the tubes for the fluid are just on the incorrect pump.

Sounds like a pump replacement error.

 

Everyone here's trying to help, but we're not getting much feedback. Where are you located, in case someone in your area could swing by and try to help you out? Also, do you feel up to looking under the hood and attempting to swap the hoses, or do you know of anyone that might be willing to help you do this? It sounds like a simple solution, but I know you mentioned you are not too car savvy...
