Any reason you went with 75W-90 vs 75W-85 as spec'd in the manual? I'm about to do this service myself.

So I went to 285s today. So glad I didn't rub on the arms or body mounts. That was the only reason I didn't do it earlier I was paranoid about that. I do have some rubbing on the front bumper at full lock so I will need to do some modifications there.

I'm a bit nervous about that LOL which is weird considering I cut a giant hole in my front bumper to put the steel bumper on haha but I'm sure it'll be fine. I went with Cooper Evo MTs. They only weigh 53lbs in an E load range which I like because I do rock crawling crawling. My Rugged Treks weighed 45lbs so not going up crazy amounts of weight. I honestly noticed zero change driving on the freeway. I will need to bump by 6112s up the rest of my 1 1/2 inches and probably an Eibach 1 inch in the rear.

If anyone is curious my wheels are not actual TRD Pro Wheels they are knockoffs but they are 17x8 with a zero offset. It's kind of bittersweet moving on from the 265s I did a TON of crawling with them. Even with the stock size and a little bit of lift in the front these rigs are amazing. I'm excited that I'll get another half inch of clearance plus another inch and a half from my lift to raise my skids. That all helps when crawling LOL. 20240208_202942.jpg 20240208_202915.jpg 20240208_202934.jpg

75W-85 is kind if hard to find and 75W-90 will work so went that direction! Plenty of threads here to read on the forum where folks went with the 75W-90 without issue! Had 2 Tacomas before my 4Runner and when I serviced them I used 75W-90 in the diffs and Ravenol SAE 75W in the TC with over a combined 100K miles without any issues!

My impatience put me in this place...

I debadged my 4Runner logo... In the process, I took too much off.

Everything was going fine except the main stem from the final letter R was leaving some adhesive.

I was trying to do it on a cold and rainy night in my garage. I had a hair dryer which made removing the lettering quite easy but getting the adhesive off of the black plastic base was a different story. Because it isn't metal, it wasn't heating up and holding the heat well like a body panel debadging would. I would have been better served to have done it on a nice sunny day with the sun beating down on it for hours.

Goof Off was used in the latter stages after I had got a vast majority of the adhesive rolled up on itself. I used my finger to push the warm adhesive starting from the outside going over itself so that the adhesive sticks to itself and comes off more thoroughly.

The solvent didn't damage anything but I started to do a final cleanup after giving up on the adhesive footprint from that last R. I was going to treat it with my 303 Graphine. I thought I saw adhesive at the bottom edge in the dark garage and worked a little extra there. Turns out that I was taking off the texture coating of the plastic. (Visible just above the July sticker in the photos.)

For the guide holes, I was going to use some black RTV to fill it.

I'll check to see if I can buy a replacement panel. If it's cheap enough on parts.toyota.com (use ZIP code 36601 or 92108 for some of the better pricing in the country)

I do like the look without that big, gaudy logo.

Dealerships use 75W-90 (including in the transfer case, which is Toyota 75W flat). Also, something I have noticed is that I don't recall seeing any 75W-85 in a full synthetic. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places (WalMart, AutoZone, O'Reilly's).

The Wilson automotive dealerships along with a few other Toyota dealers in Southern California use Mag1 oils. Mag1 is the same manufacturer that makes Kirkland, Amazon Basics and WalMart oils.

Goof off is strong on plastic. I remember using it on a computer case I was going to paint. Goof Off gave that plastic an alligator skin type texture, and I didn't use that much or leave it on that long.

I tested it on a corner. I think the fact that I was wiping down around the edge where that texture started might have been a major factor. The rest of it looks fine, it was topical and a light dosage. I am also contemplating using the Maguiar's headlight clear coat spray to see if that might bring back a consistent look on the finish although it would not be smoothed out.
