If they getting the same engines and frame as new Tac, probably not much left to test at this point. But of course, from engineer standpoint, testing critical no matter what.

    It's not a Toyota.
That test mule has independent rear suspension and 5 lugs

Looks like the sway bar disconnect (SDM) is being removed from the initial Tacoma OR allocations for whatever speculative reason:

I live in the deep south so reduced temps and battery range is rarely a thing. My requirements would be over 300 miles for sure. More like 350. Which the Rivian R1S CAN do with all season tires. I, in the past (at least in my RAV) have regularly taken three hour roads 3-3.5 hr road trips and the Rivian would fit within each of those comfortably. The next gen Land Cruiser and the 4Runner (I’ve also looked at the next gen Lexus GX) will both easily be north of $50K and so if I’m going to spend $55-65K on a vehicle, I’d also like to look at an EV in that space too.

Unless you're in Australia, where Toyota offers the 300-series Land Cruiser with a front locker in the top trim.

But no we won't get a locker in the 4th gen Tacoma and 6th gen 4Runner, because they use the carried-over front diff from the current gen.

When I first looked at that picture, the square side-view mirrors are very Land Cruiser-ish, but the body is very Land Rover-ish to me. It looks okay, certainly could've been styled worse.

Better bring lots more money because for a fully equipped GX550 you could buy two 4Runners. That might not seem all that important at first blush until you consider that the GX is a 4Runner: made with the same parts from the same vendors, in the same factory on the same assembly line by the same workers as a 4Runner. Slightly different body style and an untested engine is all you get for twice the price. You’ve got to be kidding. The GX 4Runner is Toyota’s sucker punch for 2024, duck it.

^That's always been the case for the past 21 years, longer than some forum members have been alive :notsure:

And 3.4L V6 is more tested than the 2.4L I-4 - two years in the Tundra vs. one year in the Highlander.

Let's have a chat in 20 years and see how the V6 TT is doing. It won't be in production and most won't be running, but I know of a V6 that will humming along nicely.

^After three timing cover re-seals and two headgasket replacements, maybe, assuming the vehicle hasn't rusted to the ground around it, though gas pumps may be a rarity by then anyway.

If the 9 states follow through with their legislation to ban new gasoline-powered vehicles in 2035, automakers will cease to offer gasoline-powered vehicles in the US. Existing gasoline-powered vehicles run for what, 12 years on average? By 2047 most gas pumps would have disappeared. If I ever have grandkids, they'll probably grow up not knowing how to pump gas, but will be conversant on the various competing DC fast-charging standards.

Don't despair, Toyota's Chairman Akio Toyoda believes battery electric vehicles will reach at most 30% market share, with the rest taken up by hybrids, hydrogen fuel cell and fuel-burning cars. Ever. And that includes up to 2035, ever. And this is not the infamous and often quoted "Toyoda's ghost" saying this, it is the real Toyoda! Real speculation from real sources! Wow what a change from the nonsense we normally get fed on this thread and this Forum.

"No matter how much progress BEVs make, I think they will still only have a 30 % market share," said Toyoda. "Then, the remaining 70% will be HEVs, FCEVs, and hydrogen engines. And I think engine cars will definitely remain."

"I think this is something that customers and the market will decide, not regulatory values or political power."

Toyoda's comments follow similar statements he made at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023, where slowing sales of EVs led him to say that "people are finally seeing reality."

So if you were born within the last ten minutes, you will be driving a gasoline powered Toyota for the rest of your life, if you choose to do so. Don't believe the Khmer Green fantasies.

Interesting! Roof “rack” shape looks like my 23 Limited but definitely not Limited wheels. And there does not seem to be the pronounced rear fin/shelf/protrusion that hides the worst rear windshield wiper in automotive history which could mean…gasp…a non-operable rear window?!? Say it ain’t so!

It does look pretty vertical so hopefully the rear window stays!

But, even though it is heavily camouflaged, it looks smaller? It makes tons of sense to me if it is indeed smaller because the 5th gen isn't too much smaller than the new LC and GX. The 4Runner had to trim some size to stay in its own category and not cannibalize on the LC.

Looks promising to me and the rear window looks to be there! Hopefully, they don't jack the price up like they did with the Tacoma. I cancelled my Pro Taco after seeing the prices of the non hybrid Tacos. I'm not spending 60-65 k for a mid size truck. I'm either getting the 4 runner or the Landcruiser.

What's this? A seam in the camo or a split rear hatch? I'm hoping it's the camo.

Yeah it's insane, same with the Tundra. I don't see many of the new Tundras on the road tbh.

I do like the idea of the 6th gen with the Taco hybrid powertrain. At least for the 4-cyl only version, SavageGeese loved the new transmission... so that transmission in the 4R will be amazing.

I think that's just the camo seam.

Just a seam. In the pic going around the curve you can see it in the black with a contour where it folds

Is it me or does it appear wider than 5th gen. I really hope she didn't get fat.

Isn't the Taco a little wider too?

But, the body does look smaller than the 5th gen, it could be that's what makes the track look wider.
