Hi from Florida

Hi all. First post here as I am just getting started with a 4Runner. Looking to replace my FJ Cruiser which I still love, but it is getting old. The 4Runner is the logical choice. Same engine! I think other parts are/were shared too. I was on the FJ Cruiser forum for many years.

I tried to post in the Buy/Sell forum, but I can't post my WTB for 30 days. I guess too many people post spam there. I hope it's permitted here as this is the place for new members. I am looking for Toyota 20" wheels (new or like new) that come on the Limited and TRD Sport if you know anybody who has a set in new or like new condition that they took off. Dealer wants a small fortune for the 20" Gunner wheels and although the black is OK I'm not sure it's my preference.

I'm sure I'll have a number of questions as I get started. Step 1: Upgrade stereo speakers, which is an easy one. The front speaker set looks about the same as my FJ Cruiser.

What was the age on your FJ and how many miles? I'm also new to Toyota 4 runner, but always liked the look of the FJ. Wondering if they will bring back in the future like they are with the land crusier. Trying to get ideas of future possibilities.

 

4WD because I hope to permanently escape from Florida in the not too distant future, moving to the mountains of the Carolinas or maybe Tennessee. I like to go camping up there, and I would like the confidence to try out some places where I have been warned not to go without 4WD. Plus ice and snow and some very steep places, so 4WD might come in handy once in a while. I won't use it often but would like the confidence of having it there just in case. My FJ Cruiser is the base model 2WD, but I swapped the suspension for the Toyota-Bilstein shocks and springs from the 4WD off-road. Another FJ Cruiser forum member took them off and sold them to me for very little money back then. What a massive improvement that was. Just like when I first bought my FJ with the base model suspension, I hated the way the base model 4Runner SR5 drove when I gave it a test drive, and much preferred the stiffer, heavier ride of the TRD Off-Road. The TRD Sport drives well on pavement I thought, but I want fabric seats, and they aren't an option on the Sport.

 

It's a 2011, so 13 years old now, but it was almost mothballed for 2 years and only has 72,000 miles on it because I always live near work. Haven't ever done a single thing to it except a new alternator and oil changes. It has been a lot of fun, especially camping and exploring, but it's getting to a point where I want to trade it, especially since it appears this is the last year for the 4Runner with the 1GR-FE V6, just like my FJ. if I had my way I'd have both, but I can't afford that.

Toyota continued to sell the FJ overseas for many years after stopping in the US in 2014. It was extremely popular in the middle East, and many speculate that's why they all got white roofs. The rumor was that it was discontinued in the US due to the fuel economy, but if you look at the limited number of FJ sales compared to other models, I suspect sales was the reason. I have no way to know for sure. Unfortunately, if Toyota tried to bring it back, they likely would put a 4 cylinder in it and make it a hybrid, which does not interest me. I want the good old 1GR-FE V6. I don't drive that many miles so the fuel economy does not bother me.

It always has been unique. Some people love the look and some people hate it. I love it and there will be a tear in my eye when I trade it.

Thanks but that's more than I can do. I shopped online, and I can get the 20" Limited or TRD Sport wheels and decent tires for about $3,500 if I can't find a set that someone has taken off.

 

I had to switch rims, I took out a Blacked out BMW, thing is hotter than a firecracker.

 

I think I have about $1,250. in them after getting the new tires mounted and balanced.

Ive got 2023 4R Limited 20” wheels with 245/20/55 yokohamas with <3000mi (X5 incl spare) and 275/20/50 michellins with < 5000 mi X4 I could part with. I would like to go to 17” rims.

Yes, interested if no damage to them and depends on price, but would have to ship the 5x Yokohama if you are in Pompano Beach because it probably would cost more to drive my FJ down there and back than to ship them. I'm in Northeast Florida so a 9 hour round trip not including stops. If you ever go to Orlando, I could drive that far down.

I can get 17" on my new 4Runner if that's what you need and then we could trade. That would require shipping. I can't drive without wheels, and the FJ is getting traded, and I only have one vehicle. I'd have to get yours, have them put on, and then send mine to you.

245/55R20 Yokohama is close to the same size as the stock Limited P245/60R20. Did you go for a smaller sidewall? Looks like the same footprint.

 

Not sure why you want 20” rims and tires, from what I’ve observed 17” wheels with 33” tires (285/70r17) all terrain tires are the hot set up for off-roading. Welcome to the forum!
