Just bought a '21 TRD Offroad 4runner, I'm reading the owner's manual and it mentions that I should be able to program the buttons on the 4runner to open my garage door. It mentions and has pix of 3 buttons, 1,2,3, on the roof set of switches right behind the mirror. No switches...!!! Below is the pic of my 4runner and the book. Looked all over the place and can't find any similar switches. And my rear view mirror doesn't have any such switches at all either.

    Help. Any ideas???

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me...
    Nemo

It's on the premium trims i think . SR5 premium, off road premium, and pro.

Your console doesn't have the 3 buttons for garage door control. Your off road crawl controls take up the space. My SR5P has the buttons but then I don't have the off road controls you have! My owner's manual is probly the same as yours....mine shows how to use crawl control but I don't have it!

Thanks guys, so that answers my question... So I won't get another set of switches or upgrade my console, so I'll just have to carry around the old garage door opener in the console next to me for now...

There's aftermarket options to add homelink universally. But might as well just velcro up your original opener.

No it’s not because of the off road controls. It’s just his trim that doesn’t have it. Like said above it’s only on the premiums, pro, and limited

You are probably better off as you can remove it from the car. My limited has it and it works whether the car is on or off leaving my garage door vulnerable to thieves. I didn’t know it would work with the vehicle off.

yes, if you park outside and your truck is broken into. You're right in making a concern of that, But it's the case with ANY remote control garage door transmitter left in your truck. The homelink transmitter has power when the vehicle is off but only transmits FM frequencies when pressed.
Assuming you meant to put the parking outside part, but the only fail safe is go to a manual garage door and get out to open and close it every time.

LOL, things we do for convenience.

Roll the window down, lock the doors, put key inside the house, and then reach in and see if you can open the garage door with the vehicle locked.

I haven’t bothered with the homelink openers as we just use a HomeKit compatible garage door opener. As long as I have my phone, I can open the garage door

Yeah but at least with the transmitter you can take it with you. I have a key ring transmitter on my key ring now and de programmed the home link after realizing it worked with the vehicle off. I park outside my garage. I filled the garage with motorcycles. Ha ha.

They keyring transmitter is a good idea. All systems should have that option.

You can get one and program it for nearly any door. I think I got mine from Amazon for about 25 bucks a few years ago.

stick on garage opener over sos button with double stick tape. in case you need to press sos, you will rip garage opener off, but hopefully you never gonna need that

My garage door control inside the garage has a toggle switch that disables any remote access. I thought most remote control garage doors had this feature. If so, you can just deactivate the remote operation every time you park outside.

You can always swap the mirror. I bought this one for my GTO that didn’t even have auto dim. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_220GFLCHLN/Gentex-ADVGENFLCHLN.html?tp=66448

maybe the newer ones. But the older openers only came with the doorbell button inside the garage.

Maybe they've relocated them in newer models? If you're still stumped, reaching out to expert garage door repair services might shed some light on alternative setups or solutions. They often have insights into these kinds of integrations.

I've done stealthy garage door open installs on all my previous rigs. You just need a momentary switch to mount somewhere. Then solder some leads on to you garage door open between the open button, putting the switch between. Then you stash the opener behind a panel somewhere and the button is an unlabeld button. Could be done with an Aux switch box as well. I can assist if anyone wants to go down this road.

I tried it. The button still opens the garage door with the vehicle locked.

This is surprising finding. Why would it keep these powered when turned off? Are you sure you not triggering power-on by approaching it with a wireless key (the car powers on when it detects proximity key).

A lazy move by Toyota. My VW disabled the Homelink as soon as the ignition was turned off.
