New Tire Alignment Causes Rubbing

Hi there,

I have a 2020 TRD ORP with aftermarket suspension and UCAs. Currently running an Eibach 2-stage lift and Freedom Off road Upper Control Arms. I have 275 BFgoodrich ko2s on the stock trd rims. It’s about a 3 inch lift and with 32 inch tires so I should have absolutely no problem with rubbing from what I understand. However, I had to get a new front tire (sidewall got punctured) and got pushed into getting an alignment done at my local Toyota dealership. So when the service department put the vehicle back into spec, the front tires were rubbing against the mud flaps when doing fast or hard turns (most likely because they were going off of the stock parts and not my aftermarket build)

so now I am at an interesting crossroads… I have another shop that did the original alignment after I put the lift and bigger tires on, I drove 10k miles like this with no rubbing and no noticeable performance issues with tires or steering. I am sure I can go back to them to fix the rubbing, but Toyota is telling me its better to keep the minimal rubbing and benefit from the better driving performance as the car will be going straight much more than it turns….

I will attach a photograph of the alignment the Toyota dealer sent me. From what I understand, its better to increase caster angle, but try to keep camber as low as possible this is theoretically supposed to solve the rubbing without sacrificing tire quality, but Toyota told me they cant push the caster anymore as it will be out of spec and they’re not allowed to do this. I have a feeling the other shop can do this for me, and possibly fix the rubbing, but is this the right decision?

thanks in advance for your input and advice. Please let me know if I should include any other important information. Note that the front left tire was the one that was replaced which is probably why the camber was so angled before the alignment.

 

You got scammed bad. You don’t need an alignment after changing a new tire. 3.8 Caster and 6 caster for the other side is way off. I would get an alignment at a shop that specializes in 4x4 and lifts

let me share my alignment for castor comparison.
Ur castor shouldn't be that far off ideally.
Your rubbing mudflap cuz ur drivers tire's closer to it now.

I gotta take mine in for the first transmission fluid service cuz I hear you should have Toyota do transmission fluid if you don't take it yourself (I haven't used them for diff's). I may or may not let them do transfer case.

 

@Trom99 just eat the cost and take it back to your 4x4 shop or wherever did the other one.
Of course the dealership said you should leave it, it will be better this way. It's off the alignment rack now and not going back on lol. I don't believe ur truck will drive better.

I'm sure it's frustrating, cuz you have a great truck and sweet suspension upgrade bro

 

@Trom99 forgot to add, I've been told by shops that they'll often align the passenger side with higher positive castor to counter the crown in the centre of our roads. So that part is OK

 

Hey guys, similar issues, I just replaced my UCA and LCA due to cams bolts freezing. I put my lift on several months ago and waited for time and decent weather to install. I took it in for an alignment and and they told me this is the best they can do. I’m running 2.5” lift with Freedom UCA’s, 285’s with an 8.5” wheel zero offset and now rubbing on left side mud flap.
