Relatively new to DIY car repair, but I love my 4Runner. Recently had a dealer tell us the rear axle shackle mounts are crumbling. I have not been able to find replacement parts or info anywhere online for that. All I get on searching is mounts for D-rings on the bumper. Is there a different name for that part? Is this something that can be replaced? They seemed to say that it wasn't worth it, but I know the dealer is likely more conservative on repairs. Thanks!

    What year?

Mentioning shackles makes me think of a leaf spring suspension setup, but I believe you have coil springs, which wouldn't have shackles.
They might be referring to the "spring perch" on the axle? ??
Any "mounts" will require welding either to the axle or the frame. But would be a pretty easy job for any 4x4 shop with a competent welder.

I'm sure someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Snap us a picture under that rear end, that will help a lot.

    It's a 2001 SR5. I'll take a look...

Because replacement parts don't exist; the components you are referring to are welded on from the factory and not user serviceable.

I've made various replacement parts for people where owners take the time to cut and grind off the failed part to weld the new one on.

    Here's one instance -

The 2001 definitely has the coil springs that Thepremier141 showed, but those mounts seem solid.

I'm thinking that it is the mounts pictured below. The blackish layer on the outside is flaking off, but there is still decent thickness left underneath that. I'm thinking it could be reinforced by welding a plate over that and running the bolt through it?

If this picture is what they are talking about, would that be a tough piece to fabricate? I don't think it would need all of the holes, just the one for the bolt and maybe a drain hole on the bottom. I could get you more pictures if you would like.

Ok so you posted a picture after my post; my post was simply an example of fabricating parts that are not user-serviceable.

The factory did not intend for their customers to fabricate parts and weld them onto their vehicle.

With that said, the part you're referring to is the front mount for your rear lower control arm. That whole piece is welded onto the frame but fortunately would be easy to cut off and clean up.

Anyone with the tools and know-how can easily make a new replacement part, I mean I could, but I don't have a 4Runner near me to mock up a part for.

Toyota sells these brackets for collision repair. Note LH and RH are different:
    RH: https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/__/Suspension-Control-Arm-Bracket-Lower/4045848/5150335020.html
    LH: https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/...rol-Arm-Bracket-Lower/4046612/5150435010.html

However, yours might be OK from the photo. The previously applied undercoating is flaking off in large pieces. Scrape off the loose coating as best as you can - the coating only serves to trap water at this point and does more harm than good, then inspect for rust holes.

The catalog picture doesn't do it much justice. That part is the mounting bracket that the control arm mounts to and would need to be welded to the frame?
