    To counter-balance other thread.

I absolutely love visibility. As a tall person, I can very easily see over the hood and sides.

I love large side mirrors that are easy to set and offer great visibility. You don't really even need a blind spot monitor on this car if you know how to set your side mirrors.

I love the fact that when I turn off infotaiment screen it stays off after a restart.

I love that I can do almost everything I need with physical buttons, that includes HVAC, music, etc.

I love that I don't have to turn off start-stop bullshit, because it isn't there.

I love that the car has conventional shifter, I don't ever have to wonder if I properly put it in park when leaving the car.

Easily fits in the garage and can walk around it without having to open the garage door.

I've always liked that the infotainment screen truly turns off when you select "screen off" from the settings menu. Other vehicles we have had just turn the screen black but leaves the backlight on.

Note, this may have changed once the screens were updated on the 2020+ variants.

2018 here - physical large knobs, manual transfer case shifter, all auto down and up windows (re: new Colorados), no safety items other than ABS and traction control. And because the 4runner is a bellybutton vehicle (everybody has one), its nice to be a bit unique. Screenshot_20240204-145031_Gallery.jpg

I love my 7-seater when I take grandkids fishing and tow boat trailer to nearest boat ramp.
H4 effortlessly retrieve trailer with boat on steep and slippery ramp.
And enjoying to drive it when I take I-95 South when weather gets cold.
And happy do not visit dealership - EVER.

I don't know about "Not everybody has one". From Hobby Lobby to home yesterday (~6-7 miles, at most) I saw at least 10-12. Here in the Cascade foothills, they are getting VERY popular!! I saw more 4Runners than Jeeps!!

You know what would be unique in the 4R world? One that is completely stock, with no mods whatsover, none, nada, zip...when I had my Harley Sportsters, seeing one that was completely unmolested was a rare sight...

OP hits the nail on the head and thanks for starting this thread. The on road ride is really good considering what these beasts can do off-road. Make allot of cool noises that kids these days don't understand.

the wheelbase is nice and short, making it very nimble despite its heft and trucks underpin.

I would consider my 2022 SR5P basically stock. Only thing I have added are vent shades, sunroof windscreen and Huskey floor and cargo liners in place of the Toyota stuff that came with the vehicle. All my other T4Rs have been basically like that, except a 2004 that I put in a Cornfed 3” lift. Did not do much for me off road so never did another mod like that.

Just echoing what a lot of other have said, but anyway:
Physical knobs that are intuitive and don't require taking any attention away from the road to operate
Perfect size where it's easy to park, not too big for a trail, but still roomy and looks substantial.
    Resale value
    Comfortable highway cruiser
    Roll down window
The 5th gen is becoming an iconic vehicle
Since they added proper headlights, carplay, etc, it's become a perfect combination of old proven mechanical tech with enough modern doo dads that you don't feel like you're missing out on modern tech.
Softex is so much better than I though it would be. I actually didn't want a premium because of it but it turns out it's a feature, not a bug.

How much the pups love it! It is 100% dog approved. They prefer the 4Runner over any other car. The rear roll-down window and roominess have them spoiled.

This may sound random, but I really like the steering. To me, it has a great feel to it. My old ZJ Grand Cherokee had pretty loose steering, and my Volvo does this weird thing where at low speeds it doesn't really want to recenter on its own.

I also really like the roll down window, the fact that the touch screen only controls the audio, and that when the seats are folded flat the cargo area is basically a big box. I don't like SUVs with a sharply slope rear window, that unnecessarily robs cargo space.

The build quality is great, with 167k miles at 11 years old, it's still tight with very few squeaks or rattles. I loved my 97 Grand Cherokee, but it was a rattle trap by this age.

Some of my favorites besides all the good points listed are excellent ride comfort in stock form, which pleasantly surprised me.

In terms of overall road dynamics, I think it feels well balanced and has honest handling. By honest, I mean it’s easy to tell when you are approaching the limits, not that they are the same limits as a sports car.

I like that mild lift and 285-70 tires didn’t change the basic character/feel of the vehicle (besides reducing road handling limits). That doesn’t seem to make sense, but basically it means that I haven’t regretted any changes I’ve made yet, and it still feels good on the road.

I love the basic wagon form factor. Simple, easy to use space for a variety of things.

I love that basic maintenance and mechanical work is do-able by me, if I’m so inclined.
