Isn't there an airbag behind that?

Airbag seems to be coming from the top and that A-pillar seems intact.

I went with a ProClip mount + magsafe holder. Love the placement (hate too many screens/lights in my line of sight) and need wireless charging more than wired CarPlay.

Surprisingly holds my iPhone 15 Pro Max with Otterbox case securely and attaches/detaches easily.

I put mine on the passenger side vent, and it's really not a big deal at all. I've never felt like it was blocking anything.

Navigation is pretty handy when you have a dozen other vehicles following you through the backroads. And, it's a must these days for doing service work. I do tend to take the scenic route when I'm not on a schedule, though.

I definitely understand the value of putting the phone down and just enjoying yourself on vacation (well, anytime, really). Floating down a river in a kayak, or a tube you're much better off looking around then screwing around with a phone. I've had some amazing days padding around in Florida over the past few years, as well. But, I've also used Google maps satellite images to find holes, weedbeds, oyster bars, etc. These things can actually enhance your experience if do it right.

I wouldn't actually say that you're missing anything. I think it's just something you get accustomed to if it's a part of your lifestyle or career. It can ruin your experience just as much as it can enhance it, if you let it.

For the most part, my phone mount is superfluous. I use Android Auto or just the bluetooth connection in most cases when I want to use my phone. However, the phone holder is available for the rare exceptions.

My phone happens to fit a Garmin clip well, so I use an ISaddle ‎CH-384 Garmin adhesive mount. The pre-applied adhesive tape on the base was crap, so I had to replace it with two strips of 3M molding tape. End result works OK. The bottom pivot has ratchet teeth to keep the position locked, but there's some play in the teeth, so the phone wobbles a bit while driving.

I'm right-handed, so an A-pillar mount would've been cumbersome for me if I need to touch the screen (e.g. move the map) while driving. The ISaddle mount above the A/C vent is at a more convenient location for me.

Same, but it's annoying that there isn't a place to stick it near the socket--just two pockets that are too small and shallow to be much use. Winds up in the cupholder, or more often the slot next to the shifter with a wire sticking out awkwardly.

A simple tray or clip in this area would be really nice:

Agreed. I like this one and it puts the phone right in front of the USB port.
