What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Installed a set of grille lights on my '23 Limited, wired to the low beams. Originally bought a set that I thought were going to work, but I must not have read the fine print, they're for a TRD-style grille. Luckily, my daughter has a '23 TRD ORP, so I'm going to teach her how to install them, and let her do the work. I also bought an OEM-style push button switch that's marked with "Grill Lights", but decided against using it. If my daughter wants to use it, she'll learn how to test and wire that up as well...

So when you say wired to low beams, do you mean energized by their power wire?

I was pretty stoked the day I installed mine.
I used red loctite too, hah! Seen too many spacers gone wrong videos.
How's your tire scrub, when turning and stuffing you may get pretty close to body mounts?

 

Seems ok for now. Had to trim about 1/4 inch from the lip of front bumper underneath until it was flush with the fender well-after that its ever so slight a touch at hard full turn reverse. Not sure Im gonna worry about for now. But that 1.25 inches is great. (that's what she said-Micheal Gary Scott)

The grille lights have two wires, one for ground, and the other for power. The power wire came with a fuse tap, and I tapped into one of the low beams in the fuse box in the engine compartment. Had to cut a slot in the fuse box lid (maybe 7mm tall by 4mm wide) to not pinch the power wire and so the lid would close tightly.

 

Was all set to build a drawer system, but after thinking about it some more went a different way with a passenger side 2nd and 3rd row delete.



Simple low platform bolted in place of the seats, with a modular toolbox hard mounted in back. Good visibility and fridge is accessible while driving.




Still seats 4 or 5 in a pinch.




I'll probably delete the driver's side molle panel.

 

Around 18,000 smiles already since October last year. Doing what I bought the truck for, to explore the country.

Use a relay like

$8 Gebildet JD1912 Car Relay Harness 12V 40A 4 Pin SPST 12AWG Harness Sockets with Color-Labeled Wires for Automotive Truck Van Motorcycle Boat (Pack of 2)

this one, fourth image on the product page has an illustration how to hook the relay up. "Trigger source" would be a simple tap off one of the existing fog light's positive lead wire.

 

Cut some of the rear trailing arm bracket off and change the zirk fittings so I could lube thee guys without dropping them down each time. I bought some plate metal to weld braces and support onto these at a later date.

Cut both sides a little different - trying out different things.

 

I got dizzy just looking at those topo overlays! Very cool though, I like 'em!

 

I didn't add a relay for my LED grille lights, since they draw so little amps. But if he's adding fogs to the existing lighting system, he'll definitely need a relay.

 

I forgot to add a note to that diagram to say that *if* the combined current draw of whatever existing lighting circuit PLUS the added fog light current draw does not exceed the existing fused circuit rating then he could omit a relay...but its better to keep circuits isolated, easier to troubleshoot issues if/when they arise.

every oil change. stock ones dont have / done need lube.

 

Rec’d Meso Customs dual color hatch lights today from 4RunnerLifestyle. Installation was a breeze. Fits perfectly. Super bright in both colors. Very happy with them.

 

I want to make the Toyota letters brighter like the FJ? White paint? Any ideas?

 

I'm biased toward white letters lol. I think that will great with your color. I just sanded mine, hit them with primer, then white paint and clear. They have held up to everything perfectly so far.

 

The problem is that if I do it myself it may not be smooth and perfect. 150 bucks to a body shop a good idea?
