My recently acquired 2022 SR5 Premium 4WD has the Dunlop “GRANDTREK” AT20 P265/70R17 tires on it.

The tread pattern is not “trucky” looking enough to me. But it rides nice.

My now ex 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 Double Cab 4WD pickup had Cooper Discoverer AT3 “LT” rating, Load Range C tires on it, that I had installed at Discount Tire. I really liked those LT rated load range C Coopers on my ‘06 Tundra.

For my new to me 4RUNNER, I am considering going with that Cooper “LT” load range C Discoverer AT3 tire once again, or- trying the Firestone “Destination” AT2 tire instead.

The trouble is, as I try to search the Firestone’s, I haven’t found the Destination AT2 in the LT / load range C rating. It looks like it’s only available as a “P” rated tire.

I like the looks of that Firestone Destination AT2, but worried about it only apparently being available as a “P” rated tire.

Is anyone else running these Firestone Destination AT2 P rated tires on their T4R SR5 Premium 4WDs? Are you glad you got them, or not so much?

I’m not planning on doing any rugged off roading with my new 4RUNNER, but I do want a mildly aggressive looking AT style tires for it.

ALSO- What exactly is the differences between a “P” tire, and an “SL” tire???

    Thanks.

Seems like the ideal usage case for a P-metric AT tire. :notsure:

P is perfect for your use if you like the look of the Firestones. P and SL are essentially the same, SL = Standard Load.

I run SL Generals on mine.

X3. As much as I like the looks of my Falken Wildpeak P-metric, they are a bit too noisy for my taste, and I am considering a set of Michelins, which would work fine for what I use my 4R for.

I have Firestone destination AT2’s on my 4 runner and they have been amazing. I only have about 10,000 miles on them so far, so I can’t comment on long term. I’m a pretty avid outdoor guy, they see dirt often. I have taken them threw some areas that had me a little concerned and they did great.

my last tires were KO2’s load range C and they were good for a while, then they got load and were horrible in the rain. I got about 40,000 out of them and just could not take them anymore.

The AT2’s have full depth sipping which makes them amazing in the rain, and they are quiet and smooth. If you’re not hard core off-roading, I would highly recommend the Firestone AT2’s. Discount tire ordered them and had them in in a day for me.

I had P-rated Firestone ATs on my 4runner for 75,000 miles. They were the original AT's before they upgraded to the AT2's. They were a fantastic tire on and offroad in dry and wet conditions. Limited experience in the snow but the few times I did drive in snow, they were great.

I now have BFG KO2's. The KO2's are noisier and harsher and I would have no hesitation going back to the Firestones next time.

Have had different Cooper AT tires, never an issue. I'm not a firestone fan at all they had some bad tires 500, 721, Wilderness( I had those from Ford on my 2008 Explorer Sport, ran them for 60k no issues. They got a bad rap because people were NOT using the recommended PSI on the vehicle's door frame data placard. Just my opinion & we all know what they say about those ,eh! Like I always say "It's your $$$ Buy what YOU want!!

I have the Firestone Destination AT/2s on my rig. I love them so far. I did a lot of research reading reviews and reports and these were highly rated and decently priced. I live in Southern Wyoming and wanted a 3PMS rated mild all terrain that was light…and for those wants, the Firestones are tough to beat. I use my 4Runner as my weekend adventure rig, and do a lot of dirt road exploring in southern WY and northern CO and so far these have been great for me.

Has anyone had any "cupping" issues with the Cooper AT3-LT's? I've seen some videos where this was the case. When I asked the Tire store about it I was told this would be caused by lack of rotating them, possible bad shock(s), alignment issue, and overloading them..... Considering these in Load "C" rating for our new 4Runner.....I appreciate any real-world feedback fellas!

What the tire store makes sense. I wouldn't think cupping would be related to the tire itself, more so the vehicle that it's mounted to.

I haven't run this tire myself, but my buddy runs them on his 80 series and loves them. I've driven that 80, and the Coopers are nice and smooth on the highway.

We run the Cooper AT3-Lt's, and have pretty good luck with them. Never had 'cupping' issues with ours, they get regular rotations, etc. I only know of 1 person that had troubles with the Coopers, it was a commercial use, and I think they got pounded hard, no rotation etc. We have 10 ply rated LT's, it's for the rocky terrain.
