What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

I’m going to be the fuddy duddy that’ll say it does matter, although it’s not the end of the world in every situation, so i probably wouldn’t bother rectifying anything until the weather warms up.

For full strength you want those plates to contact everything flat and even. If it looks like flat contact after you tighten it down, chances are the frame wall itself did some amount of yielding to accommodate the hard plastic’s thickness.

Also, if you live where they salt roads in winter, it’s worth doing everything possible to get those plates to be hard up against the frame rails, with no pockets behind them, so you don’t get salt/crud build up behind there.

If you remove those plugs, then you can put a thick layer of wool wax on the area, and because it’s flat, the wool wax will get squished behind the slider plates forming a nice greasy seal. That keeps water out and rust away. Even with the plugs removed, my passenger side sliders were’nt perfectly flat due to some weld beads on the frame I didn’t want to grind off. But personally I think it’s worth trying to get them to contact as flat as possible.

I had the same issue with weld beads when installing recovery points. Made a tasty Wool Wax (fluid film) sandwich between them while torque wrenching

I got it done today. Sorry for the redundant posts all over the place but I am trying to be helpful. Blind spot monitoring sensors work perfectly fine with IronMan4x4 steel bumper, something they themselves advertise that doesn't work.

 

Tomorrow....Greenlane Roof Rack and Ladder arrive.... I know what next weekend's tasks are.

Nearly week later but here is the ark delete trimmed to my nguyenworks bumper.

 

Smoking BC stuff, farting around mounting amber roof rack pods.
Limited by an Amazon rack, and bull bar clamps, I can't flush mount lights but I like this orientation so far best I can do (for two in the front).

Just a cheap Amazon camera. I did the install in maybe 45 mins. just fuse tapped into KDSS open fuse, since i have 2WD. Easy peasy.

Drilling was the slowest part, was a bit hard to get nicely drilled hole without a right angle drill.

How about the rear cross traffic alert, does that still work as well.

 

They do not work to close the door. Had a passenger grab it to close the door and "pop". Easily put back on however, would imagine the adhesion on the tape would wear out if done too many times.

 

Me & the mad scientist got together & installed our skid plate.

 

Had the afaternoon off so decided to crawl under the SR5 and check out the grease zerks......don't think grease was ever put into them.....greased 'em all up then gave 'er a good wash to get the salt and crud off 'er!

 

Installed the Cali Raised Molle panels about 2 weeks ago but finally got some time, and warmer weather, to start attaching a few things today. Need to order a few more of the Quick Fist mounts then I'll figure out the rest later.

I've never done this because I hear that my trusted Valvoline Oil change folks next to my house grease all deez sorts of things at least they tell me that. I don't do my own fluid maintenance..yet.
So far I've invested to self teach myself tire rotations, wheel spacers and other bolt-on mods, balljoints, automotive electrical.

 

What grease did you use?
