Yep. It’s totally un ergonomic. Silly. People turn the volume “up” or “down.

People say “Hey honey, please turn the volume down!” They don’t say “Please turn the volume left!”

I bought the lowest mileage 2019 Sr5 4wd in my area, to avoid the new safety stuff, etc (like others mentioned). I'm loving it. Best year IMO

I was in the same boat as you last year. I ended up with a 2011 Limited. Some things to consider...
    • I'm not a fan of the 3rd row seats. Models with the 3rd row also have plastics above the wheel wells that are slightly taller. I didn't think this would bother me as much as it does now. I am in the planning stages of my drawer build and it all seems like wasted space now.
    • If you're planning on custom subwoofer mods take a look at where the stock sub goes. Some trims have different plastics making it easier or harder to fabricate something depending on the design you're going for.
    • Early SR5s and Limiteds (not sure about the 2014+) have rocker trims that that get in the way if you're planning on adding sliders.

The only 2014+ models with the wider rocker trim are the Limited, and the recently added Limited look-alike Sport.

Went with a 16' TRD Pro I just bought -63,000 miles -drives like new - no big mods -just bulbs and interior items I have done - what a great ride zero complaints - I am coming from a big GMC Yukon Denali XL, 6.2 L, V8 - that I had for eight years do not miss it one bit...... the comment of find the cleanest, lowest mileage model out in your area is definitely the recommendation.

Stock - except Gen 3 4Runner badges on front doors!
All that said - this is my fifth 4Runner and, although it took me a while to become one with the larger size, I'm loving it now - 2021 Premium. Used ones were almost as expensive as new - like $32K with 70,000 miles! Went for my first new 4Runner since Gen1. I am not a fan of the TSS stuff but found you can simply hold the cruise button in for a few seconds and the radar goes away - much better. Same on lane departure. Power, smooth and comfortable. We live in VT, love the heated seats (OK, getting soft in my older age) but I still love it. With a bit more weight that the 4th gens, at first I found it took more pedal to get 'em going but that was an easy fix - push harder! It goes! But the extra weight and whatever else Toyota did - this holds the road better and more smoothly than my previous. LED are great, all usual Toyota layout is also so familiar and works great, sound system, sun roof, heated mirrors - just a few niceties make this a great daily driver. And she pulls a boat, lots of trailers of wood, yes, I've even skidded trees out of the woods! 4WD is sure and smooth, holds all the tools and parts and pieces, a real roof rack - all the things that make the 4Runner just the perfect vehicle for us.

Had the dreaded needle bearing problem but after two fixes and a Toyota regional tech visit - changed the bearing (twice) and the front axle (once) All made after April 12, 2022 - problem gone. I Fluid Filmed it on day 2 while all the bolts were shiny and redo each fall (thank you to my son, Caleb).

    All in all - she's a gem.

Good to hear you like it so much. I concur. Just curious - did your needle bearing fix come with a new needle bearing and/or replaced diff, all done by Toyota? I'm just wondering if you had the ECGS bushing installed instead...

GLWOOD - Needle bearing was a full front diff replacement - twice. Started at about 7K, wasn't really fixed so done again within 1K or so. Yes by Toyota - full warranty. Both the dealer and I contacted Toyota corporate and they sent a regional tech. On the second diff replacement the tech said to include a new front axle and that the diff had to be made after some date in April of that year. The first diff/needle bearing replacement was just as squirrely as the original they replaced. All good now w/over 30 on the speedo.

My new (today) Consumer Reports magazine shows the Toyota 4R as the #1 most reliable vehicle. In almost three years and 54,000 miles I have only had oil changes, tire rotations and new tires at 52,300 miles. Very pleased!

Why do those with all the safety stuff look down their noses at those who don’t?

Some need to feel superior to others

And to the comment above about tailgating, you can shut off the adaptive cruise, but it’s great on those long ass Highway rides.

The collision avoidance saved my bacon the other day when the car in front of me slammed on his brakes when I had my head turned checking traffic. They had no reason to be stopping so I'm pretty sure they were looking to create an accident for insurance fraud.

I had it save my butt in my Tacoma. No matter how good of a driver you are, there is always another clown out there that will do something dumb. Mine was the moment I glanced in the rear view and someone pulled into my lane and slammed on the brakes to avoid someone who brake checked him.
